Finish to Original. Here’s a close up on the cabinet door work. I used a combination of krud kutter, simple green, and denatured alcohol to clean and prep the surfaces. Next a coat of oil primer. Sanded with 80 grit on the sander (indispensable for this project), this removed the previous finish, any persistent stains, and smoothed out the oil primer. Then I used a combination of Durhams Rock Hard Putty and Bondo Glazing compound for filling holes, depressions and other imperfections. Sanded with 100 grit. Followed by another coat of oil primer. Sanded with 120 to smooth. Next cut and attach the pine trim boards both with 5/8” brad nails and project adhesive. Many rounds of layering the putty to smooth out the transitions between boards. Then a final coat of oil primer. To achieve the best results we applied 3 full coats of Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel for a durable, long lasting finish, sanding in between each coat for best adhesion and smooth texture.

We just wrapped up this stunning grand entryway! The original color was unknown, so the clients found a very similar match with Sherwin Williams Maison Blanche (SW 7526) *Not pictured*-red rosin papered floor protection, masking plastic to cover the beautiful custom mill work, spot cleaning the scuff marks and expected little handprints, hole and depression filling and drop cloth runners for the stairway and hallway. To compliment the spirit of the space we applied 2 topcoats of SW Emerald in a Matte finish (which is quickly becoming a favorite) after using the appropriate primer to seal and recondition the walls. Plumb makes sure the project is done right so it will last a long time.

I had the pleasure of touring The Madison House in Grand Rapids this past weekend! (Following Covid protocol) What a labor of love. (The project took 3 years to complete.) There was so much to appreciate. Here are just a few of the features that caught my eye: custom millwork to restore the trim, color palette unique and custom windows, hidden spaces. Hats off to and for bringing the Madison back to life!
