As an architect, I had the urgency to witness the devastation of the collapsed structure at Surfside.
Words are not enough to express the sorrow and the feelings of empathy that I felt for the victims, their families and the community as a whole.
Following the engineering reports done on this building over the last few years, really upset me even more. Just to see the lack of urgency in part of the owners, HOA, local building officials is unforgivable.
Greed is the only word that comes to mind. You can never put money over people’s safety and well-being.
Everyone involved in this debacle must be held accountable. From the builder, engineer, architect, owners, building officials, etc. they must be brought to justice.
Greed and negligence in this case has had a devastating consequence. Over 160 lives most likely will be lost. The impact on this community will last forever.
This unfortunate and likely preventible building collapse will be a stain in the construction industry and the professionals involved in it for generations to come.
My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and our community. Floridians are resilient, we will surpass this unfortunate event.
We will make sure that a structure will never fall on top of people while enjoying the best years of their lives with family and friends. Never again.!.
