Sound Seismic Earthquake Retrofitting

Sound Seismic Earthquake Retrofitting Seattle’s #1 earthquake retrofitting specialists. Making homes safer since 1999. All of our staff are trained through the WA Assoc.

Sound Seismic specializes in retrofitting homes to make them safe for earthquakes. We provide free assessment to homeowners in Seattle, Washington, and a few neighboring areas. We identify any issues with your home and recommend solutions that will keep you safe during an earthquake. The experts at Sound Seismic have over 25 years of experience and are specialists at securing homes to their founda

tion. By installing proven structural elements, you can prevent these three types of failure from your home:

- Stop the sill plate from sliding off of the foundation.
- Prevent the cripple wall (or pony wall) failure.
- Keep the joists from sliding off of the mud sill or cripple wall. These standards and methods, developed in 1999 by Seattle Project Impact, are consistent with other building department permit specs, insurance requirements, and work specified by structural engineers. We pride ourselves in having the best trained and most experienced retrofit crew in the greater Seattle area. Of Building Officials (WABO) Earthquake Home Retrofit Training program.

🌍 Earthquakes are a natural part of our planet. While we can’t predict them, we can prepare. Awareness and readiness help keep our communities safe.

🌏 Earthquakes: What They Are and Why Preparedness Matters

Earthquakes happen when energy stored beneath the Earth’s surface is suddenly released, causing the ground to shake. This usually occurs along faults, which are cracks in the Earth’s crust where massive rock plates slowly move and sometimes get stuck. When the pressure becomes too strong, it is released in the form of an earthquake.

Some earthquakes are so small that they go unnoticed, while others can cause serious damage to homes, roads, and communities. The strength of an earthquake depends on several factors, including how much energy is released and how close it is to populated areas.

While earthquakes cannot be predicted, their effects can be reduced through awareness and preparation. Simple steps like securing heavy furniture, knowing safe spots indoors, and having an emergency kit can make a big difference. Staying informed and prepared helps protect lives and reduces panic when shaking occurs.

Understanding earthquakes reminds us of the importance of resilience, preparedness, and community support during natural events.

📌 Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the North Pacific Ocean near Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, on November 5, 2025, at 10:49 a.m. local time. The quake, which occurred about 73 km south of Ostrov Paramushir Island at a depth of 58 km, was felt in nearby coastal areas but caused no significant damage or injuries.

Experts believe it was an aftershock of the massive 8.8 earthquake that hit Kamchatka in July 2025. Multiple agencies, including GFZ and EMSC, recorded magnitudes ranging from 5.4 to 6.0.

Residents reported light shaking in Severo-Kuril’sk, and while no tsunami warning was issued, authorities continue to monitor the region for aftershocks due to its location along the active Kuril–Kamchatka Trench.
