A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck the North Pacific Ocean near Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, on November 5, 2025, at 10:49 a.m. local time. The quake, which occurred about 73 km south of Ostrov Paramushir Island at a depth of 58 km, was felt in nearby coastal areas but caused no significant damage or injuries.
Experts believe it was an aftershock of the massive 8.8 earthquake that hit Kamchatka in July 2025. Multiple agencies, including GFZ and EMSC, recorded magnitudes ranging from 5.4 to 6.0.
Residents reported light shaking in Severo-Kuril’sk, and while no tsunami warning was issued, authorities continue to monitor the region for aftershocks due to its location along the active Kuril–Kamchatka Trench.
