merge studio Based among the cool, fog-draped hills of West Sonoma County, Sebastopol’s Merge Studio unites people and place through the practice of Landscape Architecture.

[ place ] arrangement of land and structure

merge studio approaches land planning solutions artfully and objectively. We offer a combined perspective: it’s a process of arranging land and structure into meaningful outdoor spaces. Collaborating with clients, we consider their vision and needs, as well as what the space naturally lends itself to. We create opportunity and offer beneficial choices

that add value by design; connecting the identity to place, and providing attractive functional solutions through our landscape architectural practice.

Thank you South Carolina! Starting October 2024, the noxious invasive and undesirable "Bradford Pear" will finally be banned from sale in that state.

This is a giant step for helping protect native species!

"...They’ve also become known as one of the weakest structural trees in existence, with branches that commonly break after 10 to 15 years and a short life expectancy of 20 to 30 years."

Read more here:

In Octover 2024, it will be illegal to sell Bradford pear trees or related varieties in South Carolina. But ridding the landscape of the invasive species may take decades.

Please. Just don't do it! Crape Myrtles have the most beautiful form when pruned properly and allowed to grow in their natural shape.

"This is “crape murder” season, the time when the stewards of these handsome and useful trees feel a need to butcher them...."

“A lot of people do it because they think it’s going to enhance flowering, but it actually delays flowering onset as much as a month,” said Tom Smiley, senior arboricultural researcher at Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories in Charlotte.

Winter, when trees are dormant and their structures are visible, is the optimum time to trim dead and wayward branches. But don’t go overboard.
