We will have 'Palisade' Zoysia sod in this afternoon.
I picked this variety out of the many to choose, because it has a wider blade that would blend in better with Centipede. It spreads really fast and takes full sun or a little shade.

More pots of beautiful mixed Zinnias came in this week.
With regular watering and deadheading these will be a nice addition to your porch or patio all summer.

This very large Mosquito (citronella) plant will be a welcome at your summer, outdoor functions. All you need to do is rub over the leaves gently and it puts on a nice lemon scent that will repel insects in about a 10 foot radius.

June Checklist!!

- Cut back bedding plants that are tall and leggy.
- Put fresh water in your birdbath on a regular basis.
- Clean hummingbird feeders every time you refill. The mold that develops causes the little birds to get sick.
- Water the lawn, bedding plants, vegetable garden and roses in the morning to prevent fungus.
- It's best to water your vegetable garden thoroughly once a week rather than a light watering every day. This will encourage a deep root system, which will later help the plants tolerate dry weather.
- Keep tomatoes dusted or sprayed with Sevin to ward off the tomato hornworm.
- Avoid cutting your lawn too short to prevent the sun from scalding the roots. Think of a person with thin or no hair.
- Harvest vegetables regularly to prolong production.
- Keep deadheading flowers to extend bloom time.
- Keep an eye on container grown plants, they need more watering, sometimes twice a day ass the temperatures rise.
- As the temperatures rise be sure to give special attention to newly planted trees and shrubs. If we don't get at least 1" of rain in a weeks time, you will need to give them a good soaking. Do this through fall until the temperatures cool down.
- Watch out for 'fern worms.' Spray with liquid Sevin.

If you see little balls that look like black bb's on the porch or any surface where they are visible, these are what I call 'fern worms'( not the real name). The ferns need to be sprayed to kill them or they will eat most all of the fronds off. We have the spray to kill them.
