Today had some showers. But we were able to work without heat/sun stroke.
Kiery and Dad were able to get the framing done to make this deck a safe one. They added more joists to be 16" on center. Then added blocking to cause all of the joists to work together.
It was interesting that some of the existing joists sagged more than an inch and a quarter. So they moved a couple around and sistered them together to level and strengthen them.
Also they worked to plumb up the remaining posts so the new railing will look right since we are using some of the existing posts as subposts.

A few photos from today.

Already had the railings off when I took these pictures.
And I didnt get shots after the decking was all off.
Kiery & Dad worked slow today as it was in the mid 90's no shade, little to no breeze, and very high humidity. It was a fight to keep going.
When we started to remove the old 5/4 wood decking we found that it was not framed very well. So we had a trip to get a stack of 2x8s for added joists. And a bunch of needed joist hangers.
When the frame has been upgraded the joists will be 16 inches on center to propperly accomodate 5/4 decking, will have propper joist hangers and blocking installed.
This will be a solid built and safe deck. And last for years.
Day one cut short by the heat.

We almost finished up today. But rather than rush we will take the time and finish the project correctly.
Dad says that when you rush to complete a job you miss things or make avoidable mistakes. So we will show up and complete this job in the morning.
It is turning out to be a gorgeous floor!

Being that it is a friday. Mia and Dad finished up the kitchen, dinette, and hallway. Then called it quits for the weekend.
They didn't want to take up the floors in the bath room and laundry room. This way they will have functioning machines and a toilet over the weekend.
Just a couple pictures of the completed rooms.

Day three:
Dad worked a couple hours before the Aunts arrived this morning.
We managed to get all of the wood flooring and its underlayment pulled out today. We still have a bit under the stove and dishwasher to remove yet.
And we got a good start installing the new flooring in the dinette area.
Dad got a blister.

Day two and down one worker.
We were able to complete the foyer and both front rooms today. Including the new oak shoe moulding.
We would have started on the back part but decided not to rip up the old floor untill tomorrow. This way the home owner can use those rooms for the noght without getting splinters etc... .

Hey folks,
Today we started a large flooring job in Dtown.
Dad and two of the Aunts.
This job consists of removing carpet, pad, and tack strips in several rooms. And thin glued down hardwood flooring and plywood underlayment in the rest of the house. (We are doing the entire first floor).
So today we removed all of the existing floors in the front half of the house. We then installed the v***r barrier. After which we began installing the beautiful "Aquaguard" waterproof and scratch resistant flooring.
We were able to complete the entire dining room and have a good start on the foyer and living room.
Photos of those areas before and at end of day.

Sometimes we do little things for friends, family, and repeat clients (who we have come to consider as friends).
Today was a day like that for Dad.
1. Remount a trellis to be more stable. He even mounted a tin dragon on it for our client.
2. Then he went and put a new wrap on a window sill, for a friend, that had been done by some other window company in the past.
3. Then he was able to work at home putting up some fencing that has been waiting for a long time.

Today turned out to be a good day to do this siding replacement job. It was warm but not too bad. And it was dry.
The issue with this siding is that since someone replaced the windows the paint below them has been continually bubbling and peeling loose. And honestly the trim looked pretty bad.
So when Dad started taking the trim loose at the bottom. He said that about a pint of water ran out from the trim.
Here is what Dad and Ed did to fix the situation.
They removed the trim from the windows and all of the siding up to the top of the windows. Then Dad rebuilt the trim around the window capturing the appearance of the original house trim ( like the window above them). He then wrapped it all in Textured PVC coated aluminum.
When the window was ready Ed and Dad replaced the siding with new wood siding to match the existing as best possible. Mia had prepainted the siding so all that is left is to return and touch up where it has been nailed etc... .
Before and after today pictures.
