Malarik’s Turf Specialties

We strive to provide prompt, professional service to make your lawn green and healthy for your enjoyment. With over 25 years of experience we will provide quality and environmentally safe products to you and your family. The following is a brief explanation of what will happen though our applications:

Visit 1- PRE-EMERGENCE HERBICIDE AND FERTILIZATION – This is the mo

st important application of the year. The herbicide controls crabgrass, other annual grass, and numerous broadleaf. Fertilizer will also be applied at this time to green the lawn up to get it ready for the year ahead. A broadleaf herbicide will also be applied. Visit 2 - POST EMERGENCE HERBICIDE AND FERTILIZATION - Feed the lawn and control any broadleaf weeds (Dandelions) that may have escaped or survived 1st treatment. Visit 3- INSECTICIDE AND FERTILIZATION- Feed the lawn and control surface and sub-surface insects. This includes chinch bugs, ants, fleas, ticks, and grubs. Application can also suppress STINK BUGS!!! Visit 4- LIME AND FERTILIZATION- Feed the lawn and adjust PH. Visit 5- SPOT BROADLEAF CONTROL AND FERTILIZATION- Feed the lawn and clean up any late blooming weeds. Visit 6- (OPTIONAL): AERATION AND OVERSEEDING- This visit is highly recommended to improve lawn health and overall quality. WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

Our program is geared to have a reduced impact on the environment. Applying what is needed, when it’s needed, where it’s needed. FERTILIZATION - Our base material is a 70% Controlled Release Nitrogen (CRN). Our program is phosphate free to eliminate environmental impact, absorbs quickly, creates less run off, and reduces mowing clippings by slower healthier growth. Being a 100% liquid fertilization and herbicide program enables us to revise our tank mix to adapt to the changing weather and environmental conditions. We recommend you set your mower at 3 inches to get the most of your lawn.

Pythium Blight
Pythium aphanidermatum
Pythium Blight is a common lawn disease that attacks highly maintained turf grass. Also called Pythium Root Rot, the lawn fungus responsible for this infection can affect a variety of types of grass throughout the United States, but it is much more common in the South. Pythium Blight damage occurs during summer months in the northern states and from early fall through late spring in the southern states.

Foliar & Root
Pythium Blight appears suddenly during hot, humid weather and is common in the wettest areas and in the surface drainage pattern. This lawn disease is harshest on immature grasss and seedlings and is not commonly found in home lawns. Signs of Pythium Blight include rapidly growing, brown, greasy circular spots measuring 3/4 of an inch to 2 inches. Early in the morning, these spots are dark and saturated with water. The cotton-like masses of mycelium (lawn fungus) Pythium Blight produces can combine to form larger patches whereas infected areas of your lawn may appear bronze to orange in color, collapse and die.
Life Cycle
A Pythium Blight infection can occur only if all of the following conditions are present: 1. Pathogen: Pythium aphanidermatum lawn fungus 2. Host: Annual Bluegrass, Bentgrass, Bermudagrass, Perennial Ryegrass or Tall Fescue 3. Environment: Hot, humid climates with temperatures in excess of 90°F in the daytime and 68° at nighttime; high-nitrogen soils

Control
Because you can't change your environment, the best way to control Pythium Blight is to create conditions that will foster a healthy lawn. Not only will this make your yard unfavorable for Pythium Blight growth, but it will also lower your risk of extensive damage should the lawn disease develop—plus you'll have the type of lawn you'll want to live on. For Pythium Blight control and lawn fungus treatment, we recommends the following cultural control tips: • Avoid mowing wet, infected grass where mycelium is present to avoid spreading spores with the mower blades • Reduce thatch and improve drainage with core aeration • Increase air circulation and reduce the amount of shade, which will limit the amount of time of foliar wetness • Water deeply one to three times a week rather than lightly every day • Avoid watering at night

Remembering my dad for his service to his country, family and his community! 3 years tomorrow he lay in his garden while we waited for the funeral home to come take his body...it was a Friday and it got so late that he was sent off with the annual fireworks display. I know we are supposed to be solemn and really think about our military personnel who gave up their lives for our freedom but I’m kinda glad he got to have the firework salute the day he died! I love you Daddy! Forever and ever, Amen! ❤️
