Using this joist hanger tool makes deck framing faster, cleaner, and more accurate. We set the hangers first, then drop the joists in. Simple trick, but it saves a lot of time on the job.

I needed a 17” wide PVC trim board, but the widest I could find was 11 1/4”. So I ripped another piece, joined them together with pocket screws, and made my own 17” wide PVC panel. Simple solution when the size you need doesn’t exist.

This tool holds the joist in place, so you don’t have to hold a heavy board by hand while nailing it. Simple tool, but it saves a lot of time on framing.

PVC trim boards came scratched, so I used a heat gun, sanded them down, and made them look brand new again.

For this lattice gate, I skipped the diagonal brace and used heavy-duty corner brackets instead. They keep the frame square, strong, and clean-looking without blocking the lattice design.

We started tearing apart this old deck and found serious rot behind the ledger. The real problem started years ago, when a roof was built above the deck and the flashing was done wrong. Water kept getting behind the siding and over time it destroyed the wall.

This is exactly why bad construction creates expensive problems later. If you’re not a professional, don’t build it yourself and don’t leave people with hidden damage.
