According to what is believed to have been a Polish legend , long ago, a litter of kittens toppled into a fierce and swollen river while chasing butterflies, and were swept away to drown. An ancient riverside willow heard the mother cat’s weeping, and moved with compassion, extended her long branches to save the kittens, and once they had been swept up, she sheltered their soft grey bodies in her arms until the Spring sun warmed them. This is the origin of the Pussywillow’s name, which we find a perfectly charming story !
