I wish I knew this when I saw the over head this morning. We knew it was something special.
If you spotted Chinook helicopters flying low over Kansas City this morning, you witnessed history. The Army Reserve’s Bravo Company, 7-158th General Support Aviation Battalion, conducted its Final Formation Flight on Sunday, September 7. The aircraft departed from New Century Air Center at 10 a.m. and passed over the greater KC metro as a last showcase for family, friends, and the Gardner community. The flyover marks the upcoming inactivation of the Army Reserve Aviation Command’s rotary-wing assets, scheduled for September 2026 under the Army Transition Initiative. For the Soldiers of Bravo Company, today’s flight was both a farewell and a thank-you to the region that has supported them throughout their service.
