FIRM HISTORY & PROFILE

Jeff Smies attended Calvin College & Seminary from 1973-75. As part of his pre-architectural studies he majored in art history and church architecture. From 1975-77 he attended The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, School of Architecture and Urban Planning where he received his architectural degree. In 1977 he joined a Sheboygan architectural firm that specialized in Scho

ols and Churches, (The Stubenrauch Associates). Smies became a licensed architect and project manager for the firm. He became a lead designer for many of the firm’s Churches, Schools, and Commercial Projects. Some of his churches had sanctuaries that seated over 600 people or schools that were as large as 200,000 square feet costing over $20,000,000. Some of his Commercial Projects were Banks, Fire Stations, Safety Buildings, and Assisted Living Residential Houses. In 1994 Jeff Smies formed a new architectural firm called Groth & Smies Architects, Ltd. Smies guided the firm to become an architectural leader of religious facilities throughout Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. During the past nine years Mr. Smies has served on numerous planning committees including his own church and at local parochial schools. He has been a school board member at the local Sheboygan County Christian High School and served as a church deacon and elder in his church. In the fall of 2002 Jeff Smies formed Smies & Associates, Architects LLC. Smies & Associates, Architects LLC continues to focus on religious church architecture, parochial school facilities, commercial offices, banks, and public safety facilities. Jeff’s experience and the firm of Smies & Associates, Architects LLC will help you and your clients design and present a plan that will meet your needs for many years to come.
