Red Barn Nursery

Red Barn Nursery Garden Center Red Barn Nursery is a family operated greenhouse and nursery operation. Our goal is to grow the best quality plants you can find.

Each spring we grow from seed a wide variety of annuals, vegetables, & herbs. We also grow many of the new varieties you see in the gardening & home magazines that are only grown from patented cuttings. To round your gardens out we also grow for you perennials, grasses, & a wide variety of shrubs.

We still have a few hanging baskets left along with a good selection yet of flowers to fill your pots or put in ground. Tomatoes & peppers have thinned out the last couple weeks, and although some varieties are sold out, we still have some other varieties very similar to what you might be looking for. There are also some broccoli, kohlrabi & etc, along with squash & melons now available.

Be sure to take in or cover up any new plants you’ve recently purchased that can’t take a freeze. The low was to be 38° last night and it got to 32° here this morning. Tonight is to be 37° and tomorrow night 36°, so more than likely going to hit 32° or lower. We carried and rolled in all but a few herbs that are covered with frost cloth. All the petunias will be staying inside until Saturday.

We thank God no major damage was done to the greenhouses, so far not even a tear in the plastic noticed - yet. But of our big greenhouse, the north side perlin with all the weight of freshly watered baskets, & the massive wind that came through, caused the perlin to slip up to around 2 feet lower on half of that side! The baskets will remain removed until we have time to fix the issue. On top of this the chicken hoop house got blown from its position next to our perennial hoop house to over near the grain bin to the NE. Perhaps a small tornado started here and on to the SE along Route 6 where there is 1 snapped power pole along with at least 1 more pole majorly leaning to the south.
FYI - due to the chillier weather some of the greenhouse doors are closed, the east ends of all are open or able to be opened.

We have found since the last storm our phone line has a buzz so loud we can’t make out what is said. If you need to call, please call Martha at (815) 915-5824.

I apologize to the lady that called today I could only hear the last 4 digits of your number and unfortunately it appears the phone buzz is so bad not all caller iD’s are showing up. We’ll see how long it takes Frontier to get it fixed.

We will be opening starting Monday April 13th. 9 AM to 5PM Monday- Saturday.
