AC Professional Pruning Professional Landscape and Pruning company centered out of Shelburne VT. Welcome to AC Professional Pruning! Ready to transform your outdoor space?

Specializing in garden design & installation, ornamental pruning, tree removal & pruning, and bocce court installations I am a proud graduate from the University of Vermont with a degree in Ecological & Sustainable Agriculture. I run a small tree work, garden design, and installation business based in Vermont. With extensive knowledge in plant physiology and care combined with years of experience

in full-scale tree removals, pruning: ornamentals, fruit trees, and shrubs, as well as garden design and installation. I am well adapted to care for your tree and garden needs. My garden designs prioritize low-maintenance native species that serve as pollinator powerhouses. This fosters a diverse and vibrant landscape, contributing to local ecosystems by supporting birds and other pollinators. With the incorporation of evergreens and berry-bearing plants, I ensure year-long interest, even in Vermont's long winters. When it comes to tree services, I bring expertise as an experienced climber. Whether it's full-scale tree removals or pruning, I can safely handle trees in challenging locations. If a tree cannot be cut down directly due to hazards that may be damaged below, we employ a systematic approach, dismantling the tree from top to bottom. Safely lowering the limbs and pieces of the trunk so that no damage is caused to surrounding structures. When it comes to ornamental pruning it has become common practice in the landscaping industry to hedge everything into uniform shapes, even ornamental trees that were planted for their architectural structure. At AC Professional Pruning we are hoping to break this trend and specialize in structural, regenerative, and maintenance pruning. Emphasizing proper pruning techniques to promote and enhance plant health. Together we can restore your landscape, ensuring that it not only looks good but also thrives in the long term. Contact me today for an estimate or consultation. Your dream landscape awaits!

Stump removal in South Burlington, VT

We had cut two Norway Maples, an Arbovitea, and a few Burning Bushes down earlier in the month then came back and successfully removed the stumps. New topsoil was then brought in and the areas were smoothed off and planted with grass seed extending the lawn.

Dead Maple tree removal in Williston, VT

This Maple tree was standing dead for a couple years and had become a major hazard to the power lines on the far side of it. The removal was fairly straight forward, pulling it over with a rope while it was being cut from the base to ensure it would fall in the desired direction. Everything went smoothly, the branches were chipped and the trunk made excellent firewood.

Spruce tree pruning in Burlington, VT

This almost 90-foot tall Spruce tree in downtown Burlington had some lower branches that were beginning to encroach on the houses to either side and some clogged growth throughout the lower canopy. We were able to remove the encroaching lower limbs, raising the crown slightly as needed. We also thinned out areas of clogged growth in the lower two-thirds of the canopy and removed any deadwood. This increased the airflow through out the tree and created room for future healthy growth.

Basswood tree pruning in the ONE of Burlington, VT

These two Basswood trees had limbs overhanging the roof, sidewalk, and driveway too closely, even touching in spots. In addition, the canopies of the trees were extremely clogged with excess growth. The pictures show a comparison between one tree we had finished pruning and the other tree we had not started working on yet. We removed the branches that were overhanging the roof, driveway, and sidewalk too closely. Then thinned out the trees removing dead wood and any major crossing branches. This improved airflow throughout the trees and left room for healthy future growth.

Boxelder pruning and cabling in Charlotte, VT.

The limbs of this large Boxelder were overhanging this clients driveway a little more than they felt comfortable with. We removed the branches causing the most conceren and pruned back the surrounding branches. This removed a lot of excess weight from the ends of the over hung branches and helped to blend in some of the larger cut that were made.

In addtion a cable was added to help suppot and tie together the main two leaders of the tree. This was needed due to an area near the base of the tree where an old larger branch had been removed frm and never fully healed over. Creating a weak point where the tree could potentially brake apart from in high winds.

Dead Birch tree removal in Shelburne, VT.

This dead birch tree was leaning back over the client's house so had to be removed. I was not able to climb the full tree due to it being so dead at the top. Although I was able to climb up a little more than halfway to remove most of the branches that were weighing it toward the porch on the right of the tree. We were then able to hook up a rope leading to a winch that was used to pull the tree in the desired direction (away from the house) while it was being felled from the bottom.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures or videos of the rest of the job but we also worked on a White and Red pine growing over the other side of the house. Both trees had branches either lying on the roof or extending way too far over it for how close they were. I was able to climb both of these trees and remove the branches overhanging the house. We used controlled rigging to lower each branch and ensure that no damage was caused to the house or any surrounding property in the process.

The client had a large brush pile that we were able to use for disposal of all the limbs and pieces of the trunk making cleanup a breeze. Overall the job went smoothly and the client was very happy with how the work turned out.

Complete backyard renovation and garden installation in Williston, VT. This backyard had several randomly ill-placed garden beds throughout the backyard, along with overgrown shrubs and trees. The garden beds had been let go for years so were completely overgrown with w**ds. The shrubs and trees had grown to block the view from the porch making the whole yard feel closed in and claustrophobic. Since the positioning of the existing beds did not make much sense we decided to rework the entire layout of the backyard. On the left side, we removed a large overgrown garden bed as well as cut back bushes growing out over the yard, and created a more natural planting of native species. These were pollinator powerhouses and plants that have lots of berries and create great habitats for birds. In the center of the yard, we removed a large Buckthorn and several poorly placed garden beds that were closing in the backyard. In the frontmost area, we installed a lawn opening up the whole yard. Then created a plot for an annual vegetable garden in the middle of the yard along with a plot for perennial fruit plants such as blueberries off to the side in the back of the yard. For both the vegetable garden and fruit garden new nutrient-rich soil was used to create the beds and landscaping fabric was placed around the rows to help with w**d suppression. Finally, on the right side, we created a more formal garden with native perennial flowers and ornamental shrubs that will have flowering interest throughout the year. The whole project was a success and the client could not believe the positive transformation of their yard. In the Spring the project will continue, expanding the natural planting along the left side further into the yard plus the addition of a wetlands garden behind the vegetable garden.

A transformation video can be seen in the post above this one.

Concolor Fir Removal in Burlington, VT. This tree was between two houses and leaning towards one. The client was concerned that it might blow over in a storm or with a heavy snow load. On closer inspection there were stress fractures beginning to form near the base of the tree from its heavy top/crown combined with the lean. This confirmed the client concerns and made this a very dangerous tree to leave standing due to its close proximity to the houses on either side. This timelapse shows the full removal and hopefully we will be back in the spring to replace the tree with something new that will fit the space a little better.

Some recent improvements to the bocce court. We've added stepping stones around both ends along with a stone base for the bench. Each stone was laid on a 3/4" crushed stone base and leveled using screened stone dust. They were then firmly seated and secured with more screened stone dust packed in along the sides so they will never move or wobble. Soil was brought up level with the tops of the stones on one side where grass will be planted in the Spring. On the other side, mulch will be spread in the Spring to be even with the tops of the stones. In addition, lights were added to the court. We cut an inch-deep channel with a beveled lower side into the 6x6 beams that make the frame of the court. This allowed us to mount LED strip lighting to the top of the channel facing down so it reflects off of the lower beveled side creating a soft ambient light that does not shine directly into your eyes. The client was pleased with how the work turned out and the way these features add to the overall design of the court.

Juniper pruning in South Burlington, VT. These larger Junipers had been hedged for the past 15 years creating dense and unhealthy growth throughout the plants. They were also undesirable to look at like giant worms. Unfortunately, I do not have any "before" pictures of them for reference, but they were a mess. This is a video of after we finished a full structural pruning and thinning out of the shrubs. We removed years of dead wood and clogged growth from the interiors of the plants and restructured/reshaped them to promote future healthy growth. This created a light airy look to the plants showing off their natural structure like large bonsai trees.
