Silky Dogwood, Rugosa Rose, Tuliptree

Text: (203) 943-2161 and come pick up some big, healthy, native plants for your yard!

We sell dozens of varieties of hardy, edible and medicinal plants, but we've got a few too many Silky Dogwood, Rugosa Rose and Tuliptree! Time to give back, and make sure these plants have healthy, long-term homes.

Silky Dogwood is an excellent native shrub that grows about 15' tall with big white blooms in spring that support important pollinators. It easy to grow, likes slightly damp, rich soil, and tends to form a thicket of easily managed plants. The whole plant turns red in fall, and then offers interesting blue, ornamental looking berries.

Ruga Rose is a failsafe plant, that even the most cursed gardeners will be able to grow :) It is prickly and thorny and forms a solid 4' shrub that blooms and blooms and blooms pink - white roses throughout the summer. It has an intoxicating fragrance. The generous, delicate petals can be harvested and used in all sorts of medicinal, heart-healing potions, teas, cosmetics, and other magic. Be mindful that they will also where they are planted, slowly forming a big mass if left alone. They tolerate hot, dry sandy soil, but also thrive in rich thick soil.

Tuliptree: Liriodendron tulipifera: A beloved native tree by those who know how to spot it. Luna-moth looking leaves with big 'tulip' like flowers that bloom in the canopy as it grows and matures. Very easy once established. Can grow very, very, very, very, tall. Lovely, big, soft, green leaves give a tropical touch to our northeast landscape. - The free tuliptree we are offering are already 8-10ft tall and may be difficult to transplant, but it's worth a try. Be prepared for a lifelong companion / giant.

NOTE: If you want more than a few, we might need help digging some of these out when you get here :)

Also, World Repair Nursery is having an annual XXL tree sale of other select species you might be interested in:

Digging out XXL trees requires incredible care and effort.
The bigger that trees grow, the lower that their survival rate becomes after transplant. These trees were never supposed to grow so large at out nursery... they are the last remains giants from our first of propagation, after being in business for 6 years.

See prices and quantities below...

In order for these trees to survive:

1. Customers must have an adequate sized hole dug in advance BEFORE pickup, in order to expedite transplant. Please plant your trees within 24 hours of pick.
2. The trees must be carefully dug out while retaining as much root as possible and transplanted BEFORE their buds begin to break. - Right now, the ground has thawed enough to dig, but leaf buds are still dormant. This is the best time to transplants trees, and perhaps the only time that massive saplings like this will survive.

3. Please MAKE AN APPOINTMENT by calling (203) 943-2161, or emailing [email protected] - We need to coordinate with you to dig your trees in advance.

Please do not show up without an appointment, thank you!

IF YOU WANT DEEPER DISCOUNTS:
We will take an additional 30% off any tree that YOU HELP to dig out! It may take up to one hour per plant, let's coordinate!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Our biggest trees may have up to 10' long roots in multiple directions, which will be carefully packed in plastic bags.
Trees will be pruned in advance, removing up to 50% of their top growth to help ensure an earful transplant, and make up for root loss.
Once planted, your trees will adapt to their new, long-term home. Depending on species, it may take 1-2 years for them to fully adapt and begin putting on regular growth again. Some will recover very quickly and continue growing a few months.

*We have been transplanting XXL trees using this method for several years, and witnessed impressively high rates of success. With correct timing, even trees that seemed too big to move have recovered well and begun growing strong again in new homes.

Thank you!
