I have two new soaps for the season. Black Raspberry Vanilla and Tangerine Grapefruit. The Black Raspberry Vanilla is a subtle berry and vanilla combination that is sweet but not overpowering, and the Tangerine Grapefruit is a vibrant citrus with a sweet tangerine addition. Both are great but I'm leaning toward the tangerine for summer.

We roadtripped today and brought home some spicy friends. They're the bees' knees! Sorry, couldn't help it. Ive wanted to try this variety for a while and this is the year. We're loaded up with adorable chicks now too because chicken math and chicken addictions are real over here. Next week holds a special date for me so I've been back at it in celebration. Let our next stage begin!

Hopefully spring is underway and we can all decide if it's time to put the shovels and boots away or keep them handy a little longer. I've been making simmer pots lately to help with sinus congestion so I figured I'd put a couple of my current blend in the store. While they do smell good, they are medicinal herbs and are not intended to be used solely as an air freshener. Just pour the packet in slowly simmering water and inhale the vapors through your nose. They last for approximately 18 hours before losing their kick. If they're boiled, they'll lose effectiveness sooner.

Vanilla beans have been painfully expensive the past few years. I broke down and bought a new batch since I'm almost out of vanilla. If you're not a fan of the flavor of vodka, Everclear works great to get a clean, unchanged vanilla flavor.

I have a new favorite recipe to share. The maple and cranberries add great flavor without being overpowering.
Venison Breakfast Sausage:
4 lbs venison in 1" chunks
1.5 lbs pork fat or pork trim in 1" chunks
5 cloves peeled garlic
1 cup whole cranberries fresh or frozen
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ground ginger
40 grams kosher salt
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp sage
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup powdered milk
1 tsp black pepper

Mix all ingredients together and let sit in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Grind it all together with medium or large blade in a meat grinder. Mix it together. Press a small amount into a patty and fry it up to check the flavor. Adjust seasoning to your liking. This can be frozen bulk or stuffed into casings. It is not a cured sausage so it needs to be frozen.

Better late than never, I've started Elderberry Syrup! There's a pint and a half-pint going out in the fridge today (pint is $22, half is $12). I have some brochures in the fridge that give information on some of the benefits of elderberries. I don't always have a supply out there so send me a message a couple days in advance and I'll make some up. This lasts a month or two refrigerated.

I have only one batch of spiced apple syrup this year and it's in the store now. The flavor is similar to the apple pie jam and it'll rock your pancakes! There's a sample in the fridge. Also, my last few animal soaps are on sale. You'll find them between the fridge and fishing flies.

I have a lot of Sunchokes (Jerusalem Artichokes) this year. If anyone wants some for free, let me know and I'll put some in the store for you. They last a few days in a paper bag but are best harvested and cooked the same day. These can either be eaten or planted to have some perennial food growing. They are hardy and can be invasive if you don't dig them often. The plants grow about 10 feet tall and have yellow daisy-like flowers in the fall.
