Mellow Marsh Farm

Mellow Marsh Farm Mellow Marsh Farm specializes in the propagation of plant species native to the Southeast. We are a wholesale nursery, but we do sell to individuals.

We focus on providing plant material and native seed mixes that meet specifications for: wetland mitigation, stormwater ponds, and pollinator habitat. We cannot accommodate on-site shopping or unscheduled visits. Plants may be requested online, over the phone, or by email. Customers can pickup their orders on a pre-arranged date, or have us deliver. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate walk-ups.

Our availability gets tight this time of year, but we promise we're hard at work getting the new crop ready! One plant we do (surprisingly) still have available is Lyonia lucida (Fetterbush).
This short, evergreen shrub is native to the Southeastern U.S. Coastal Plain and is blooming right now. The small bell-shaped flowers are classic for the Heath family and are a great resource for spring pollinators. This shrub is naturally found in wetlands, but it grows fine in low/moist spots in the average yard.
Swipe to the end for a sneak peak of our baby plants starting to grow!

This cooler weather has everyone gearing up for the fall planting season! We've got you covered with a robust inventory of wild-type native species. Pictured here is Ilex opaca (American holly), which is a beautiful evergreen tree that grows well in sun or shade, wet or dry. It's a slow grower, but it's worth the wait! Pollinators love the small, spring-blooming flowers; and critters eat the berries in the winter.
Ilex opaca is currently available in tublings: our smallest container for woodies. Tublings are a great option for anyone who is looking to dig a smaller hole and save money.
Reminder that we are a wholesale nursery, so orders must be placed in advance. You can submit a plant request through our website (inventory updated daily).

Real live footage of Sabatia kennedyana (Plymouth rose-gentian) is in full beautiful bloom right now! This endangered perennial occurs in ditches, swamps, and riverbanks. It likes wet feet and can grow in full sun or part shade. Its flowering stalks reach 3ft tall each year and die back to a green basal rosette in the winter. We have plenty of 4-inch pots blooming and ready to go! Check out our availability on our website.

New inventory alert! Our fresh crop of 1-gallon and 3-gallon pots are starting to come ready. Pictured here is Callicarpa americana (American beautyberry). These 1-gallons are budding up, so plant them now for flowers soon and beautiful purple berries by fall!
This shrub prefers sun but can tolerate part shade, and will grow in a wide range of well-drained soils. Pollinators enjoy the flowers, songbirds eat the fruits, and the crushed leaves are said to repel mosquitoes. What's not to love?
