HABITAT FOR HUMANITY GILA-REGION ACTION PLAN
HOME REPAIR PROGRAM
Habitat for Humanity Gila-Region is accepting applications to provide Home Repair Loans to qualified, low-income homeowners to assist in with making necessary repairs to their homes, bringing them up to local housing standards, as well as to improve their comfort and safety. This includes repairs or replacement of heating, plumbing or electrical systems, roof repairs and weatherization. Work will be completed by licensed contractors. Homes that qualify will be real property (both site built homes and manufactured homes set on a permanent foundation and connected to permanent utility hook-ups).
Eligibility is based on income, home ownership, and citizenship status. To qualify, applicants typically must have an income not to exceed 50% percent of the area’s median income and may have additional requirements. To qualify the home must be structurally sound and deeded to the applicant.
Housing repair work may include:
• Roof repair/replacement
• Repair/replacement/upgrade heating systems
• Electrical work
• Reconditioning /upgrading plumbing
• Repair/replacement/upgrade gutters, and downspouts
• Repair/replacement flooring
• Weatherization to include windows and doors, insulation, weather stripping, etc.
• Enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities
Needed emergency home repairs that also qualify may include smaller items such as patching of roof, addition of a wheelchair ramp or an emergency electrical repair.
Maximum loan amount cannot exceed a cumulative total of $5,000.00 to any eligible person. Loan recipients must own and occupy the home, and have sufficient income to repay the loan. To qualify for a loan, homeowner-occupants must be unable to obtain affordable credit elsewhere and must have “very low income”, defined as below 50% of the area median income.
