Sewers have become my favorite and most fulfilling part of plumbing! Nothing last forever, and sewers are no exception. Houses settle, old pipes break, belly’s form (sections of pipes that are filled with water because there’s a dip in this particular section). If any of these happen, clogs start to form because flow is inadequate, then I get called in to snake & camera to locate the problem.

For this job I originally got called out to snake it, and thankfully the owner already had the toilet pulled, because there was no clean-outs outside for me to snake from. I got it cleared within a matter of minutes and camera’d the line - in doing so I discovered that there was a belly for most of the mid section that was catching all solid debris.

I had the entire 35’ line dug up and then replaced the sewer with brand new 4ā€ PVC - so the owner/tenant wouldn’t have to deal with clogs for a very long time. I also installed 2 double way clean-outs so a future drain cleaner can clear a clog from any direction and as close as possible. The owner and tenants were wonderful people, and they were really happy to have this done 😊

This was a pretty cool job I got to do recently as part of a remodel!
What you see is called a Sani-Flow toilet. My client didn’t have a 3ā€ pipe already ran to this portion of the house (minimum for toilets), just a 2ā€ pipe AND there was a very thick concrete wall with no crawl space that would have had to be opened up way more to fit the pipe better.

The quotes she was getting wasn’t exactly budget friendly to get a bigger pipe to this section. I suggested this toilet option so we wouldn’t have to upsize the pipe. It’s a macerating toilet so it shreds solids to be able to fit through a 1ā€ diameter pipe.

It’s also a great option for basement additions if the sewer happens to be higher than the basement floor, this particular toilet has a built in pump to pump up 20’ or so.

Works great and she’s happy! šŸ™‚

An amazing client of mine had a very dangerous burner chamber situation and unfortunately these direct vent water heaters cost almost as much as a tankless unit. I gave her the options and she went with the tankless option.

I hard-piped copper all the way to the unit and secured it to the wall so it’s nice and rigid and just looks nicer all around! There’s a crawl space directly behind this wall where I made friends with Ben the rat and had to upsize gas to 3/4 and run new gas pipe to properly feed the unit.

A big thank you to my apprentice Jimmy for the assist in this install!

I have become substantially busier so it’s been a minute since I posted, I try to find the ones with the best story if I can!

This was one of those jobs you think should be easy when hearing the description, but realize when you get your eyes on it that the universe chose a different path for you that morningšŸ˜‚

When this was first installed by whomever, they had decided to run a 1.5ā€ galvanized pipe through the foundation into a 3ā€ cast iron pipe and overtime that seal broke. So at some point, another person decided to use wax to try and seal the hole in the foundation so water wouldn’t backflow into the home (see photos for water rust leaks on wall).

The Wax did hold for some time, but it was time to replace it and do it right. We had to dig down to expose the pipe and attach to it properly and run a new pipe through the foundation. I repiped that section with better turns for easier water flow. My apprentice, Jimmy, was the one to dig the hole and patch the foundation with water proof cement and did a great job!

What started as a simple sink clog turned into a whole catastrophe of a jobšŸ˜‚ I ran my cable all the way out hoping to pop the clog, but it didn’t take.
I located where the pipe goes into the mainline so I can install a ā€œdouble way cleanoutā€ so I could snake forwards or backwards.

Once the clean outs were installed I proceeded to snake and managed to clear the clog. Tenants were happy, all is good.

Then once I tried putting the mainline back together the pipe at the upper terminal snapped as seen in photo 1. So I repiped the section with 3ā€ PVC and ran a new mainline with an added clean-out. Even though it was 7 at night, I still had fun with itšŸ™‚

This was a really cool job I got to do this week! A repair on a pipe a plumber will rarely ever come across called PPR (Polypropylene Random Copolymer).

It’s made with a special blend of plastics that require you to use a special hot iron tool (the green one in the fourth photo) to heat up the plastic to a slightly melting point at 500 degrees in order to ā€œweldā€ the plastics together.

He had been dealing with this issue for quite awhile so I was glad to be able to help him outšŸ™‚
