BREAKING NEWS: Punxsutawney Phil has taken over the weather desk and things have escalated rapidly. Instead of a calm forecast, viewers were met with a full-blown winter meltdown map, dramatic music, and snowfall totals that look personally insulting. Bread aisles are empty. Parking chairs are being deployed preemptively. One inch somehow became a foot while you were at work. Pennsylvania is once again in a committed relationship with chaos, and the snow hasn’t even started yet.

Effective: Noon on Saturday, January 24, 2026, until further notice
📍 Skippack Township, Montgomery County

Skippack Township has issued a Snow Emergency Declaration due to a significant winter storm expected to bring 12+ inches of snow, along with freezing rain, sleet, and ice. Extremely cold temperatures will persist after the storm, and power outages or utility disruptions are possible.

Public Works crews will be operating trucks, plows, and heavy equipment throughout the storm.

❄️ What This Snow Emergency Means for Residents:

Road conditions will be hazardous due to snow and ice. Please stay off the roads and limit driving.

Major roads will be cleared first—we appreciate your patience as crews work through neighborhoods and developments.

⚠️ Safety & Preparedness Reminders

In an emergency, call 911.

Food, water, flashlight, batteries, phone chargers, first aid kit, extra pet food, fire extinguisher, and extra blankets.

Refill prescriptions before the storm if possible.

Do NOT run generators or gas grills indoors and do not use ovens or stoves to heat your home—carbon monoxide is deadly.

Keep exhaust vents for furnaces, water heaters, and fireplaces clear of snow and ice.

Report power outages to PECO at 800-841-4141.
Do not call 911 for power outages unless there is a life-threatening emergency.

Do not drive over downed power lines—they may still be energized.

No person shall deposit snow onto any street.

Please check on elderly neighbors and friends, as they may need additional assistance.

Check https://www.skippacktownship.org/ for updated information through the storm.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Friendly reminder to Pennsylvanians: this is not PennDOT. This is your uncle Jim, Bob, Marty, or Biff, who got the municipal plowing gig because he owns a truck, once welded something in 1998, and knows a guy. He’s been awake since yesterday, running purely on gas station coffee, ni****ne, and spite, and he’s about to plow your street like he’s mad at it personally.

That truck has no heat, one working headlight, and a plow blade older than the Eagles’ last rebuild. He’s gonna miss your curb, destroy one mailbox, absolutely annihilate a trash can, and somehow plow one side of the street twice while ignoring the other entirely. He’ll be out there for the next 36 straight hours, radio blasting, windshield iced over on the inside, muttering “almost done” every 8 hours.

This is Pennsylvania snow removal: improvised, undercaffeinated, and held together by duct tape and overtime.

** As promised in the LIVE... This isn't a 1st call, but it's our EARLY thoughts into snowfall totals just so you can get an idea what to prepare for **

The actual 1st call will be out tonight by 9pm. Please reference this map, look for your county and this should help answer a lot of (INYB) In Your Backyard questions. This is the most likely ranges as we see early on.

** This is an experiment we are doing for all of you who want an early take that isn't behind a paywall, into what we are thinkin. Let's see how effective this is **

* Areas in the expected Winter Weather Advisory zone in light blue on the map (New Philadelphia) will LIKELY begin as rain and change to a mix before changing to snow.

* Areas in the dark blue will POSSIBLY be starting as rain or sleet, or have some mixing early on. Before changing to all snow.

* Areas in the expected Winter Storm Watch zone in purple should remain all snow.

* Areas in the hot pink will LIKELY start as snow and never change over at all.

* This will be a heavy wet snow. Starting around Midnight (Monday night/Tuesday morning) or so and ending by noon. Heaviest snowfall likely between 3am-10am Tuesday.

* Winds will be 10-20 mph with gusts 25-35 mph in heavier snowbands.

A cold morning with temperatures in the 20s, but bright blue skies will help to warm us up into the 40s and even low 50s in Southwest PA. Not quite feeling like spring, but more than acceptable for early February. That is, unless you’re looking for snow. Nothing on the horizon yet, but we’re not done. Come back in a few weeks perhaps!

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES
Nearly our entire area is under a Winter Weather Advisory for accumulating snow Friday. Some areas near the coast will see some mixing before a changeover to snow. Be prepared for impacts to both the morning and evening rush Friday.
