FREE W**D IDENTIFICATION & MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, the Master Gardeners of Montgomery County are holding an in-person workshop from 9:30 to 11:00 AM to help gardeners enhance their lawn and gardens by understanding and managing w**ds. Attendees will learn to distinguish invasive and noxious w**ds from beneficial native w**ds that contribute to an ecologically sound landscape. Participants will also learn how to control or eradicate undesirable w**ds using a knowledge of their life cycles and the Integrated Pest Management approach, equipping them with practical, sustainable strategies for long-term w**d control.

Workshop presenters are Master Gardeners of Montgomery County, volunteers who have been specially trained and certified by Penn State Extension. Master Gardeners provide education on a broad range of horticultural topics and can advise community residents on best practices based on university research and recommendations.

The location for the workshop is the Maple Room at the Farm, Home & Youth Complex (formerly called the 4H Center), 1015 Bridge Road (Route 113), Collegeville, PA 19426. There is no charge for the workshop. To register, call 1-877-345-0691. If you have questions, call 610-489-4315. Free parking is available.

When you visit our plant sale on Saturday, make a “beeline” for the Woodies! We have a wonderful selection of trees, shrubs, and groundcovers chosen for beauty, wildlife value, and the variety needed to suit every growing condition.
Here are just a few highlights:
For pollinators:
The native American linden is one of the most important pollinator trees you can plant—its fragrant flowers are a magnet for bees and beneficial insects.
For the wildlife gardener:
The native Pagoda dogwood feeds 34 bird species with highly nutritious fruit and offers four seasons of interest—spring flowers, summer fruit, burgundy fall color, and a beautiful, snow-catching, tiered winter silhouette. Even better, it’s resistant to the anthracnose and powdery mildew that often affect other dogwoods.
For shade and understory:
The native Carolina silverbell is a standout in spring and thrives beneath taller trees—a species you won’t often find at other plant retailers.
For groundcover and slopes:
If you’re looking for a native groundcover that excels at stabilizing slopes and banks, consider Yellowroot. It provides three seasons of interest, with incredible fall color that begins yellow and deepens to reddish-purple.
Whether your garden is wet or dry, sunny or shaded, large or small, we have something for you—from straight native species to well-behaved, non-invasive exotics.
