I am in total awe of the plants that self seeded that are already flowering, I feel like I need to put seeds out earlier because clearly these guys started growing in April sometime, much earlier than the suggested planting date for this zone.

Things are growing! This particular picture is of zinnias, I love how easy zinnias are to grow, I can’t wait to see them in full bloom in about two months! There are lots of other new plants growing too, and several self-seeded ones that will have blooms in just a week or two already!

This is the SAME PLANT. Last year it was a bluish purple and this year after winter it came back on its own and now it leans much more pinkish purple. I didn’t know it could do this, this is a sage variety, has anyone else ever seen this in sage before?

Got most of my planting done today, we have two new rows added and soon to be a few more spots around the farm. There will be double the flowers we had last year with several new varieties I’m trying out. Got everything in then sat and just enjoyed the beautiful view. Our gray tuxedo kitty, Jack, loves when I come out to tend the flowers, all summer last year he wondered around flower beds, meowing his opinions on each flower as I worked, or laying in a cool bit of ground beneath a dahlia plant. He is enjoying the early start to the season with the blessed tulips.

These “Foxtrot” Tulips were advertised as being more pink, the first few have been creamy white like a wedding dress, as if it had fluffy layers tulle between the petals. But the last few that opened have shown the pink and I love the unique variety of the white and pink blend in each one.

When the warmth of day begins to wane, and the sun rests low on the horizon, I feel the call to slow my pace. To sit awhile amidst the tulips. I thought we were planting these to sell as cut flowers, but their majesty is intoxicating, especially in the twinkle of the golden hour. The first few who bloomed are beginning to fade and new ones awaken. I never want this spring to end. I think come fall I will be doing lots more tulip planting everywhere on the fam, creating vignettes of God’s palette in unexpected places. Tonight I sat amidst their glorious blooms and dreamt of future plans for Spruce Hill Flower Farm, a place of peace, where the Spirit of God is always found.

Views from an evening walk around the farm. I am so thankful for the beauty of our amazing Spruce Hill. God knew what He was doing when He sent us here almost 7 years ago. I spent a lifetime loving the places I lived but always feeling a longing for more nature. I would take drives to find the peace that only God’s nature brings. And then God led us here, and that peace is the view out every window and the steps outside my own door.
