Our Hudson Valley farmhouse and barn clients are passionate about the environment, and sought to minimize the carbon footprint of their new building.
The project utilized:
- prefabricated wood construction which minimizes waste, has lower embodied energy than all other major building materials, and actually stores carbon within its fibers
- air-tight and continuously insulated SIPS wall panels which are 20-30% more thermally efficient than standard wood framing
- high-efficiency tankless water heater, ductless mini-split HVAC, and radiant heat in the floor slab
- an 18kw photovoltaic solar array on the barn's south facing roof for electrical power
