Incubator surprises never get old. But do you know what does get old? My inability to go more than a few hours without peeking into the incubator once the first babies start to hatch. Glass-front incubators are both a blessing and a curse

7 years and 10 days. This picture was 7 years and 10 days in the making. That’s how long it’s been since I was fortunate enough to acquire my own radiated tortoise (Astrochelys radiata), which is when I instantly decided I needed to help the species and produce more. The first two babies are fully out with more to come.

But wait! There’s more! When I saw my first clutch pipping, I decided it was the perfect day to wear the radiata shirt I won in the silent auction at the TSA conference last summer for the first time. I stepped outside, and found this little one’s mom was laying again. Seven more radiata eggs! 22 eggs total so far for my first radiata season.

Radiata are critically endangered. They’re from Madagascar where they’re heavily trafficked for the pet trade and sometimes even eaten. They’re not small animals by any means, but the most incredible fact about these guys is that the oldest radiata tortoise on record lived to be 188 years old. That means that these little ones have the ability to live until 2214.

Amazing, amazing day. Over the moon stoked. Bucket list experience ✅. The fact that I get to do this is absolutely mind blowing, and I for sure couldn’t do it without your support and trust or the help from my friends and mentors in the community.

For those wondering, I incubate using in my incubator. The eggs were laid 123 days ago then underwent a 37 day diapause (cooling) before 86 days of incubator at 87 degrees Fahrenheit.

Have a great day, people!

My man looking 🔥last night after lights out, so I had to turn the lights back on to take a pic - can’t wait to see his babies later this year. He’s going to be paired with my favorite lady from my man, .phants

Finding 18 eggs is the absolute best way to end an otherwise wildly frustrating day (13 Burmese star tortoise (geochelone platynota), 3 pancake tortoise, and 2 (not pictured) Uroplatus ebenaui eggs)

Started the day by dropping off one of my last 2025 Burmese star tortoises with its fantastic new owner/forever home. The only thing better than hatching these babies is connecting them with great keepers who will provide the best forever home.

Over the next two weeks, I’ll be sending my last four 2025 Burmese stars to their new homes, which is bittersweet, but probably just in time for my 2026 babies to start popping.

And the first holdback of 2026 has emerged!

This Uroplatus henkeli (Henkel’s leaf-tailed gecko) is a special one for me and not just because she’s a stunning pied with an awesome greenish head. I lost this little one’s mom about 8 weeks ago due to impaction (when eating a cricket, she ingested some forest floor substrate and it caused more damage than we were able to fix with the vet). This girl came from one of the two eggs I found in the enclosure right after she passed.

Fifth gecko of the week, and I’m hoping this girl’s clutch mate will make an appearance once I wrap up work and turn the lights off 🤞🏼

When this little one’s fully grown, she’ll be about a foot long and an absolute eating machine.

POV: you just finished a massive playground for your smallest lizards. You’ll never regret giving your animals the biggest enclosures possible.

This is where my 2.4 Polillo geckos will live moving forward. Tons of bromeliads for daytime chilling and egg laying, mistking all set up, orchids, monstera, and dracaena 🤌🏼
