Charles H Barrett, a native of England, came to the United States to take charge of laying out Central Park in New York City. Barrett was a surveyor and was in the employ of the United States government for fourteen years. In late 1882 he came to the Ashtabula Harbor on the Great Lakes and had charge of a government project for two years. His youngest son, Lawrence Marshall started a glass and glazing business in Ashtabula around 1925. He served in the community, sponsored a baseball team and was a member of the gun club. His business tragically ended in 1936 after he was killed in a train accident. His oldest son Charles, twelve at the time, grew up, joined the Navy, worked in oil and gas then in windows for his oldest son Chip. Chip's son Nathan now runs the glass company. Nathan began picking up trash and helping the installers after school and on weekends which continued through college. After graduation with a degree in business administration he is now both GM and VP making four generations of glazers.
