🔨 WHY FRAME FIRST? THERE’S A METHOD BEHIND IT.
Here’s a behind the scenes look at our Charleston, Utah project in Wasatch County and a construction method you may not see on every deck.
Instead of installing all of the permanent footings first and then building the deck on top of them, our crew temporarily supported the deck structure and established the framing first.
Why we did it this way?
By getting the framing positioned, leveled, and aligned first, we can use the actual structure to determine the precise locations of the permanent posts and footings below. Rather than trying to make the framing fit predetermined footing locations, the permanent supports can be placed exactly where the structure requires them.

💪 Creates a clear load path from framing → posts → footings → ground
This method does require additional temporary supports and careful bracing while the permanent foundation system is completed. Once the permanent footings and supports are in place, the temporary supports can be removed.
