I used a new finishing product on this fence. I was very happy with both its ease of installation and final result. It penetrated the wood extremely well and was very easy going on. The finish is very consistent across the whole fence and the color variation is beautiful in the cedar. Needless to say I will be using it again. (Product: Penofin ultra premium penetrating oil. Color: transparent redwood) @ South Salt Lake, Utah

Sometimes taking time to have the right tool pays off. I build a custom swing jig to make these pergola brace supports. It took extra time to make this rather than a clamp on template, but it sure payed off on the time it took to mill the pieces and the quality of the finish! Excited to install these tomorrow. @ Salt Lake City, Utah

Started a new project last week. Took down a decrepit patio covering and demoed all the old crumbling concrete out. Now it is a clean slate. This week the new concrete will be poured and in about 3 weeks the new custom patio covering will be built. @ Salt Lake City, Utah

Floors are getting sanded down today and will be ready to start finishing tomorrow. We decided on the darker amber finish with modern light colored gray walls (not painter yet). Thanks for all of you who voted and gave us your opinion on finish color! Stay tuned for some finish tomorrow!

These floors are all scratched up and are going to be refinished. We are trying to decide if we want to refinish to have the same look as current (photo 1) or if we want a lighter more natural look (photo 2). Either way it will be beautiful and we are excited to be able to make use of the original 1955 skinny plank red oak floors! Which finish do you like best? Let us know! @ Salt Lake City, Utah

1955 House - Brick Facade, then 1” air-gap, followed by 4” cinderblock as the structural support of the house. Next glue on the plastering backer and add your 1/2” of horsehair plaster. Probably an R value of 2-3 and no real good way to increase it. Anyone else work on old homes like this? What do you suggest to homeowners who are seeking to increase R value in these old homes?

In smaller footprint homes it’s often important to find ways to maximize the space you have. Finished installing these built-ins to make a basement shelf space more usable. It will allow for more storage while keeping it from looking stuffed on a shelf. @ Salt Lake City, Utah
