Thanks for all of your interest in our video that was posted for the New Spanish Fork High School. We wanted to respond to some of the comments and questions that have been posted, so that you can get the information from the source. The video has been re-uploaded to address some of these comments.
Will the classrooms have windows? Yes, most of the classrooms have windows, and the interior classrooms that are unable to have a window will have tubular skylights to bring in natural light.
When will this be completed? The school is set to open to students in Fall of 2024. The current building will be torn down after the move to the new building, and the space will be used to accommodate parking areas and practice fields.
What about the spirit rock? The spirit rock will be transported to the front of the new school after its completion.
What about the shops? This rendering is not a complete view of every room. The new design includes rooms for wood shops, metal shops, black box theater, dance, choir, band, orchestra, art, ceramics, sewing, and a 1250 seat auditorium for theatrical and other performances. The brick exterior yard areas are the shop yards.
What about elevators and ramps? The school is fully ADA compliant with two elevators and appropriate ramps.
What about Oakridge? Oakridge School is Nebo School District’s only self standing school for severe/profound developmentally disabled students. The school is currently located in the Springville High School campus, and it will move to the New Spanish Fork High School upon completion. The Oakridge section of the building is a self-contained portion of the building, with its own entrance and separate reception area. It will include its own bus lane and parent pickup and drop off. The design includes a fenced outdoor area, partially covered and partially open, with artificial turf grass. There are several sets of restrooms and specific changing rooms as well as a visual room, a speech room, a kitchen area, and showers. The new design has 4 classrooms and a resource room.
Where is the new high school located? The building is currently being constructed to the west of the existing high school where the stadium used to be.
What about the football stadium? This is a phased project, and the construction of the stadium and concessions building was completed last year to the north of the current building. You can view a video of the new stadium here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qJGQxpGvu4
The site layout incorporates the new stadium, school and the fieldhouse to be built between the two.
Why the flat roof? This is the most efficient type of roof for a building this size, and it incorporates adequate roof drains for snow and water drainage. The roof material is a membrane type, taking advantage of updated roofing technology.
Will this be the same design as Payson High and Springville High? The design will be similar with adjustments made to the aesthetics and layout to fit the needs of each school.
We are glad there is so much excitement for this new school. Keep in mind that this has been a multiple year design process, and every aspect of the building has been analyzed by a team of design professionals and the school district with teachers and students in mind. We’re excited to share the finished product with everyone.
