I still have a great selection of plants. Bee Balm, Purple Coneflowers, Butterfly W**d, Peggy Martin climbing rose. I just got some nice sized Forever Goldy (12’x3’). We have hundreds of hydrangeas and dozens of daylilies: Roses, Butterfly Bushes, COSMOPOLITAN GRASS (look it up, it’s gorgeous). I have alot of azaleas, lilacs, camellias, and Japanese Maples (several customers have told me recently we have the best selection of Japanese Maples they had ever seen).

Yeah, it’s hot. It’s going to cool off quite a bit next week. In Spartanburg summer can start in April or it can hold off to July. June can be anything, and we are getting hot, cold, wet, and dry. Water! Overwater plants like Japanese Maples is fatal. Right now watering once/twice a week is probably enough for new plants. I shudder when I hear people say they’re watering every day. Hibiscus like water everyday. Bee Balm and Joe-Pye W**d like water every day. HANGING BASKETS like water every day.

The season continues to be strong. Sales of hydrangeas, Japanese Maples, FLOWERS, Butterfly Bushes, Elephant Ears, re-blooming Azaleas, Hosta, Star Jasmine, Daylilies, and pretty much ANYTHING with a flower on it just keep going and going. We just got some Emerald Arborvitae in pots smaller than the great big 15g. 5gallon are $69.99 and 7gallon are $89.99.

It’s hydrangea season FOR SURE! Even if you’re not going to buy any, it’s worth your time to come see the different varieties in bloom. It’s peak of their flower season right now. Same for Butterfly Bushes…we have many new dwarf Butterfly Bush varieties and also many of the old-fashioned tall varieties, even the yellow one named Honeycomb. The Butterfly W**d and Purple Coneflowers are here, but quantities are limited. We still have loads of herbs. Honestly, we still have loads of EVERYTHING.

Today is Saturday. The forecast for Gunter’s Gardens, 315 Caldwell Circle Spartanburg SC 29301, is 0” rain. I hand picked 80 Hydrangeas at a grower Thursday. They’re gorgeous. They’re in full bloom! They would make wonderful gifts! Butterfly Bushes (the ones that bloom all summer) are covered in butterflies, and we have 6-8 varieties. Fruit trees all have fruit on them. Grape and muscadines are starting to produce fruit. So are blackberries and blueberries. Society Garlic is gorgeous, and we have them in small pots.

Gunter’s Gardens will be open 9-1 Memorial Day. We are located at 315 Caldwell Circle, Spartanburg SC. 864-595-6900. Our regular hours are 9-5 Monday-Saturday, closed Sunday. PLEASE FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK TO GET ALL OF OUR POSTS.

Our 26th season has been our most successful. We are loaded with tress, shrubs, and flowers. People are coming from far away, Blacksburg SC, Black Mountain NC, Hendersonville, Tryon, Union, Chester, Easley, Greenville, Gaffney, Greenwood, Rock Hill, and that’s just in the last few weeks. People come because they get the big nursery quality for Box Store prices. We have over 300 hydrangeas and azaleas in stock now, thousands of flowers for pots and beds, hundreds of roses, and thousands of small shrubs. Our employees will help you choose the right plants for your application, but we’ll leave you alone if you don’t need help. We’re not pushy, but, for us, helping you find the right plants is fun.

The rain (3.75” here) will make planting easier and more successful. THIS WEEK IS AN EXCELLENT TIME TO PLANT, but don’t dawdle. We all know it’s going to be hot and dry soon! Thank you Lord for the rain….and for the wonderful customers who are our business’ life blood! We appreciate all of you.

It’s Hydrangea and Rose season, and flowers in pots too! We still have a tremendous selection, expert plant people to help you make good decisions, and we think we have the healthiest plants in the area. Because of freight( up 80%) we aren’t buying anymore plants from the west coast until it comes down. We still have a nice selection of topiaries, Emerald Arborvitae, and other west coast plants because we bought so much in the spring. They won’t last.

We have loads of Encore Azaleas (they bloom at least twice/year) Knockout (tall) and Drift Roses (short), Hosta, Green Giants (fast growing screening trees), Crapemyrtles, Elephant Ears, Japanese Maples (hundreds), Ornamental Grasses, Tea Olives…just to name a few.

If you haven’t been her in awhile, you should come see our larger inventory. More choices, more plants, and lots more flowers.
