🌸 Shelby Jean Cox Plemmons went home to be with Lord Friday, August 2nd.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 really sums up much of Shelby’s life. “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.”
Shelby was a quiet woman who could command a room. A woman worth knowing! Shelby married William Plemmons and had three sons, Tommy, David, and Charles. She was the Business Owner of Plemmons Westview Greenhouses for over 40 years, rarely made known to our customers or the community, as she preferred to stay out of the spotlight. Shelby grew up in Loris, SC with her parents and her 9 siblings, on a to***co farm where she learned how to care for both plants and a large family. Her family grew with 3 daughters in laws and 7 grandchildren who loved her deeply, and then two great grandchildren. Shelby was a person who loved in action, not words, not affection, but with great acts of service and acceptance. She never met a person she wouldn’t welcome in, often with a large homemade lunch and a cup of tea or lemonade. You would often find Shelby at the side of family gatherings listening to all of the party, until it was just the two of you, and then suddenly she would bloom into precious conversation. Grandma had a great laugh, often following a joke with a dark sense of humor or a truth bomb said with the perfect amount of love. She was a caregiver for many years during the evening, and would run the business and cook a homemade spread 6 days a week gathering her family together each day. Our family table has served all extended family, employees, friends, neighbors, and countless guest in a rapid world where this was no longer the norm. Shelby’s favorite place was probably in the potting greenhouse, taking cuttings with her sister Diane by her side. She had a gift of growing beautiful flowers in a garden all around her, and sharing it with the world. She loved reading books, and preparing for her Sunday school class at Abner Creek Baptist Church. She believed in quality, and could out-work anyone around! Shelby had a magnetic force that gathered people together, teaching her family how to love others just as they are. She was an incredibly practical woman, and was quick to tell you the endless uses of a good roll of blue painters tape. She was truly uncommon. If you were privileged enough to have found yourself in a one on one conversation with Shelby or gathered around our family table (likely amongst a loud family full of love), be sure to know you have met a woman who has changed the world.
