Over the holiday Paisley and I made a few Simmer Pot Jars as gifts. This was a fun craft to do that is super kid friendly. They turned out great and smelled AMAZING! Here is how we made them...spoiler alert, there are bloopers in the end ;-) ENJOY!

With all the aches and pains in my house we needed a solution. As I have been learning more about various herbs and what they are good for. I came across a salve ising Cayenne Pepper! I did a warm infusion of cayenne pepper with almond oil. Added beeswax and a bit of shea butter. Then a few drops of clove, peppermint and lavender oil. I am pretty surprised at how well it works and fast too! Something tells me I am going to need to make more!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a Teas and Tinctures workshop with the amazing Kaylee from The Honeystead. We spent the day learning about many plants and herbs and how we can blend and use them in both teas and tinctures. We blended a tea for colds and flu, as well as a warm and cozy feel good tea.

It was wonderful to spend time with likeminded woman learning how so many of the things right outside our doors can help heal and mend. As a trained herbalist who has also worked in the medical field, Kaylee is a huge wealth of knowledge. The generosity she showed in opening up her Apothecary and sharing her wisdom with us was heartwarming to say the least.

If this is something you would like to learn more about, I would highly recommend a workshop with her as well as picking up a copy “The Beekeepers Apothecary”.

This weekend, Dale and I were able to escape for a night and spend some much-needed quality time together. He was gracious enough to allow me to indulge in one of my new passions and book a medicinal herbal walk. We visited Wild Roots Apothecary in Sperryville, VA. The walk took us around their medicinal herbal garden, where our guide pointed out an array of plants and explained their medicinal properties. The apothecary was delightful, and the neighboring shops were fun. It was a great chance to get away!

Most things are slowing down in the garden. As the seasons shift and change, so are my thoughts and ideas. During this gardening season I started learning about the many medicinal properties of several of the plants I was already growing. This has taken he down a rabbit hole of herbalism. I have started drying herbs to save for teas and tinctures. This past weekend, I was able to meet up with Kaylee Richardson from The Honeystead and pick up a copy of new new book “The Beekeeper’s Apothecary”. I can’t wait to dive onto this book as the cooler days set in and start planning for next years garden.
