Get to know [us]
Brian | Operations Manager
University of Idaho
🌟New to the team as of July!

What is your background?
I was an Estate Manager / Operations Manager at Living Vehicle as well as Office & Facilities Manager at TaskUs.

What do you do in your free time?
Travel, explore, eat fun food, drink fancy w**e and hang out with my dog.

What is something about Spokane that intrigues you?
I lived in Post Falls and went to U of I, but have been away for well over a decade. I'm shocked by the growth! I'm excited to be closer to family, as well as being able to access so many lakes and forests. I had these in Alaska too, but the season to enjoy them is much much shorter!

Something you might not know about me…
I bought a one way ticket to Hawaii in the height of covid with the plan to stay for a few weeks and ended up there for a year!

What is inspiring to you right now?
Lake life! Nothing makes me happier or more inspired than being on water. And summers in the PNW make that almost too easy to find. I love being able to provide a good life for my dog.

What ambitions do you have this year?
Settling down in Spokane or CDA, learning the community, finding favorite places, and really putting down roots... and learning all things [us], obviously!

Glad to have you on the team!

Join [us] for the next Sustainability Forum — Thursday, Sept 24th 5:30 pm. Guest speaker is Dante Jester, Climate Resilience Program Manager at Gonzaga University’s Institute for Climate, Water, and the Environment. Dante will explore resilience hubs and how these intentional community spaces can bring together emergency preparedness, resilient infrastructure, clean energy, and community connection to help people prepare for and respond to extreme events.

Recent wildfires have reminded us just how vulnerable our communities can be and how important it is to be prepared. With wildfire and extreme heat increasingly impacting the Inland Northwest, this conversation is especially relevant to our community. Dante will also share the work of the Spokane Community Resilience Hub Network, which launched a pilot in 2025 and now includes eleven certified hubs throughout Spokane.

🎓 AIA HSW continuing education credits available

This downtown Spokane transformation brought together commercial space, a shared mezzanine, and loft-style apartments. By rethinking how each level could be used, we were able to unlock the building’s full potential and create a vibrant place to work, gather, and live. This updated design added another layer of energy to the west side of downtown.

Dustin | Project Architect
Washington State University
Welcomed to Uptic Studios 2 months ago!

What is your background?
Most of the 20 years of my design experience has been spent living in Seattle and Leavenworth and working on projects primarily throughout the Pacific Northwest and California. I am a well-rounded Architect having worked primarily in Residential, Commercial, Mixed Use and Work Place designs. I also have experience with Senior Care, Health Care, and Master Planning.

What do you do in your free time?
Reading and playing my guitars. Family time with my daughters and grandsons. I also love music festivals and all the standard PNW activities like biking, snowboarding, hiking and camping.

What is something about Spokane that intrigues you?
I like the surrounding mountains, trees and waterways. Landscape inspires me and I appreciate being able to go from wide open
spaces to woods to rivers.

Something you might not know about me…
Before I was an Architect, I pursued a degree and life as a visual artist with emphasis in drawing and painting. I also had a short career as a Naval Firefighter and spent two years in the Middle East and South Asia.

What do you most enjoy about working at Uptic Studios so far?
I like the studio culture. It is inspiring to see such a talented and energized team putting in the time and effort to work on great design and supporting each other in the process.

What is inspiring to you right now?
Having recently moved from Seattle back to Spokane and gaining a fresh perspective on my day today. I’m motivated by my family and my faith.

Install day as Spokane Sports moves into the historic Flour Mill, they brought [us] in to help transform the space into a flexible home base for everything their team does.

Our Procurement Studio helped to add furnishings, layout, and final touches, creating spaces for day-to-day office work, large meetings, seasonal equipment storage, and a comfortable place for athletes to occasionally land.

We loved finding ways to honor the character of the historic brick building while giving the space a fresh, functional feel that supports the energy and growth of Spokane SportsThis space will play a small part in the BIG things Spokane Sports continues to bring to our city.

Collab with [us] — Our Design team partnered with local artist Christy Branson Art Gallery & Studio to create a commissioned art piece specifically for a mutual client. Together, Julie and Christy explored materials, colors, and form to create something that feels right for the space while also reflecting the client’s vision.

This collaboration is a great example of what can happen when art and interior design are considered together from the start. We love finding opportunities to bring local artists into our projects and create something truly one-of-a-kind.

💫 Make sure to stop by her studio August 21–23 for her studio “Moving Sale” as she transitions into a new creative space. She’ll be offering artwork at special prices for the weekend only!

We created a design that feels both fresh and familiar. The Mustard Seed has a modern aesthetic with layered materials and bold architectural details. A distinctive exterior canopy welcomes you in, while the open dining room and intimate seating areas create a warm, inviting atmosphere inside.

A dramatic staircase. A living wall that stretches two stories. One of downtown Spokane's largest tenant improvement projects. At the Bank of America Building, we helped reimagine the workplace with architecture and interiors designed to elevate the everyday work environment.

Anchored by lush greenery, the new stair transforms circulation into an experience—improving acoustics, reinforcing biophilic design, and creating a healthier, more inspiring environment.

Commercial projects like this don't happen without great collaboration and we're proud to have been part of bringing it to life.
