Hello everyone. We are wrapping things up and getting ready to move everything. If there is anything you want and you know what it is, you can make an appointment. The plants are all pulled together and signs are taken apart and stored. It's not in a good condition for browsers anymore, so no browsing appointments, sorry to say.

A million thanks to Leon Trimble for all of his hard work helping tear down benches. We are so grateful! Thanks to Lori Wilson for loaning her dump truck to move the nursery soil.
Always, thanks to Heather Humbird and Mandee Humbird for so much, and for bringing in family members to help.

And thanks again to our wonderful customers and the great friends the nursery has brought me.

Hello my friends and customers. We need help preparing to move the nursery equipment. There are a bunch of benches that need to be disassembled. This includes cinder blocks, metal mesh fencing and boards, so we need some extra muscle to help this old lady and this disabled young lady. It's best to contact Heather Humbird - she is on Facebook. Thanks in advance!

Check this carefully. It's pretty, but it is incredibly invasive and spreading rapidly in the Spokane area. PLEASE dig this out if you have it in your yard. Each plant produces thousands of seeds.

W**D OF THE DAY
Common Bugloss
Anchusa officinalis

Why Is It a Noxious W**d?
Common bugloss is a threat to agriculture. It invades alfalfa fields and pastures. The fleshy stalks can cause baled hay to mold.

It is a perennial herb that can flower its first year but typically starts out as a basal rosette of leaves. It has a deep taproot and can reach 1 to 2 feet tall. The entire plant is covered in coarse hairs.

Flowers are blue to purple, with white throats and 5 equal lobes.

Mechanical Control
Small invasions can be dug out, making sure to remove the taproot. Dig plants before going to seed or if already forming seeds, make sure to bag removed plants to prevent seed dispersal.

Desert Jewels Nursery in Spokane is Closing

After 20 years of providing our community with Washington native plants, regional natives, and drought-tolerant species, Diane Stutzman will be closing Desert Jewels Nursery.

Desert Jewels Nursery has been a trusted source for high-quality, sustainable plants in the greater Spokane area. With a focus on ecological responsibility, the nursery has played an integral role in promoting water-wise gardening practices and enhancing local landscapes with plants that thrive in our region's unique climate.

To mark the closure, the nursery will be holding a Closure Sale August 1–3, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, or by appointment. All plants will be 40% off, and all sales are final. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase hardy, locally adapted, and drought-tolerant plants while supporting a business that has contributed so much to our native plant community and ecological gardening efforts.
