Most landscape supply yards will tell you their soil is good.

We'd rather prove it.

When we took over Acors from my grandmother, I'll be the first to tell you — I thought dirt was dirt too. Over the years that changed. A lot of time spent understanding what actually makes a blend perform, not just what looks good on a product name.

Today we dropped samples off to Waypoint Analytical — full panel on every blend we carry. pH, salts, nutrients, drainage rates, all of it.

We don't always nail it on the first batch. That's exactly why we test and keep tweaking.

🌱 How Much Mulch Do You Actually Need? Let's Break It Down.

Spring is here and we get this question every single day — whether you're a homeowner sprucing up your beds or a contractor pricing out a job. As your project partner, we want to make every job easier — starting with the basics.

🚫 First — The Biggest Mulch Mistake People Make
Piling mulch too deep. We see it constantly — mulch stacked 5, 6, even 8 inches thick around plants and tree bases. That actually suffocates roots, traps moisture against the trunk, and kills the very plants you're trying to protect. More is NOT better with mulch.

✅ The Golden Rule: 2 to 3 Inches
That's your sweet spot. Two inches minimum for w**d suppression and moisture retention. Three inches maximum for most beds. Never more than that.

📐 The Formula
Length (ft) x Width (ft) x Depth (inches) ÷ 324 = Cubic Yards needed

📊 Real World Examples
🏡 Small flower bed (10x10) at 3 inches = roughly 1 cubic yard
🌳 Average front yard beds (400 sq ft) at 3 inches = roughly 4 cubic yards
🌳 Large property (1,000 sq ft) at 3 inches = roughly 9-10 cubic yards
🏗️ Full landscape job (5,000 sq ft) at 3 inches = roughly 46-47 cubic yards

🔹 Always pull mulch 2-3 inches away from plant stems and tree trunks
🔹 Existing beds usually only need 1 inch of fresh mulch to top off
🔹 When in doubt, order a little extra — we'd rather you have enough than come back for a second load mid-job
🔹 Bulk mulch by the cubic yard goes significantly further than you think
