Thank you Sunshine Contracting for the roof, siding, and gutters!

The inspector comes on the 14th to inspect the framing. Then I can put up the rest of the porch trim, ceiling, pavers, and railing. Landscaping will have to wait until spring 🙂

Edit: I’ve been getting questions about the tree that had to come down. The picture doesn’t show it well, but the trunk of the tree was about four feet from the house. Large limbs were threatening to fall, so we removed the tree 😞. The new landscaping plan has a couple of new trees, though.

The rafters for the sides are cut, ledger boards for the sides are up, and a couple rafters are placed on the right. Tomorrow, all rafters should be in place and work will begin on joining the roof lines ;)

Front porch concrete being poured at your diy laboratory today! DIY can be a tricky thing. It is important to know your limitations. We dug most of the footing. Eric, in orange here, came and made the footing perfect and passed inspection , built the form, and is pouring/shaping the concrete.

Next up…building the roof!

On the left is the window as the contractor installed it. It is missing support for the roof and there was no insulation around the window. The contractor did not pull permits, thus it was not inspected. When the inspector came when I called, the installation did not pass the building code requirements (as I suspected :P).

On the right is the window I installed. Note the change in structure.
There is good support for the roof. While waiting for new windows to come, my 2nd story had sunk almost 2 inches. I will add insulation, drywall, and molding after the inspectors come to approve the structure.

We are busy at the DIY Teacher Laboratory (our house 😃). Due to last year's tornado, the remodeling projects have been rescheduled to delay the inside work and start on the outside work. Insurance is paying for new siding, but first, we have to do the projects on the outside that would disturb the siding.

New construction windows are IMHO better. They offer better insulation and waterproofing. Thus, we needed to finish the window work.

After 8 months of windows being on backorder, they finally arrived.
We have fixed windows that were incorrectly installed by contractors (see pictures). We have installed a new window in the 2nd bathroom we are remodeling.

While it is dry outside, we are continuing to dig the footing that county inspectors say needs to go all the way to the foundation. That's an 8-foot-deep hole that has to be dug by hand. Contractors wouldn't touch the project, so we dig.

Progress is good, more photos to come.
