This stem of 'Royal Sunset' won best-in-show honors in Section A, Division 8, for Lynn Slackman of Shiloh, Ill. It is a great stem of a wonderful, garden-worthy lily. It was one of the early LA hybrids (i.e., a cross of the Easter lily (L. longiflorum) crossed with an Asiatic. 'Royal Sunset' was registered by W.A. van der Wereld & Zn BV/World Flower BV in 1999. Jan van der Wereld was honored posthumously when the North American Lily Society bestowed on him the E.H. Wilson Award, for his outstanding contribution to the genus Lilium. His sons flew from the Netherlands to Chicago to accept the award.
