Dayton’s been working in one of our favorite historic Springfield neighborhoods, Rountree! 😍 And he just wrapped up this laundry room renovation.

Dayton and I talk about this idea a lot when we’re renovating older homes: if the original builder had access to today’s materials and products, what choices would they have made?

This home, a 1912 Queen Anne cottage, inspired us to think that way. Rather than a modern update that would feel out of place, we focused on timeless details that complement the home’s original character.

Not only did this room get a major facelift but the important stuff in the walls was addressed too. As with most renovations there were issues including some rotten wood that was replaced, some electrical issues addressed, and a plumbing leak fixed. Good renovations should improve how a home functions without losing what made it special in the first place.

From 1911 to move-in ready 🔨

This Ozark's vernacular four square started as what many would consider a simple, working-class home but we think ordinary is still something special.

Our goal on this one wasn’t to erase the past, it was to respect it.

Before: dated finishes, worn surfaces, and a layout that didn’t quite serve modern living.

After: a clean, refreshed space that still carries its original character. We kept details like the trim and overall feel of the home, while updating the kitchen, finishes, and exterior to bring it into today.

These are the projects we enjoy the most, where you don’t just renovate a house, you carry its story forward.

This one is way more than just a house or a renovation. This is our life dream come true. It’s my amazing husband bring my vision to life AND making it better than we ever could have imagined.

We hired more subs than we have in the past which was scary for our budget, and our peace of mind. We completely gutted the house and changed some of the framing. We talked, designed, consulted the budget, redesigned, rethought, and stressed. All and all this is our favorite house and design to date. We didn’t make as much as we were wanting but that’s not the point for us.

The point is breathing life back into a home. Restoring it and hopefully providing someone with a home they can call their own and love as much as we do.

This porch got a beautiful facelift with some fun colors. I love the front door.

Dayton and the crew replaced rotten deck boards, power washed, installed a new front door and light, painted the ceiling, floor and steps.
