Arkifex Studios is pleased to share that founder and principal Blaine Whisenhunt has been selected to present at the 2026 AIA Conference on Architecture & Design in San Diego.

His session, “Designing Against Sameness: A Place-Encoded Framework for Human-Centered Design,” examines how architecture can respond to the AI moment without surrendering specificity, human judgment, or connection to place.

Grounded in the studio’s ongoing philosophical framework of Ozark Modernism, the lecture considers how art thinking, regional identity, atmosphere, material honesty, and lived experience can help architecture resist sameness and remain humane, adaptive, and deeply rooted.

We are proud to see this work recognized on a national stage and look forward to sharing more from the conference.

Hatch Pavilion at McDaniel Park is conceived as a light-touch intervention within the landscape—an open structure that frames gathering, rest, and observation along the trail system. Developed under the design moniker Prismatic Pavilion, the project explores how light, material, and movement can heighten awareness of place. As visitors pass through and around the pavilion, shifting patterns of reflection, light, and shadow animate the structure, creating subtle moments of pause and orientation. The pavilion operates as both shelter and instrument—supporting everyday use while quietly amplifying the experience of being outdoors.
