I got some yard work done and cut some flowers before the rain started again. It’s peony, lupine, and poppy season here. Oh and let me not forget the rhododendron. They look like nothing most of the year but when it happens it makes me smile.

Don’t laugh but my collection of gnomes is growing. Most were given to me. One says it was painted by someone who I don’t know in 1980 (the year I was born). I have painted a couple myself recently and I just put them on a tall beam on my covered deck way up high. I’m every bit old but when I go out there they make me smile and no one sees them unless they are invited up.

There are a lot of things I know to be true and one is that the best treasures in this life take time and you have to trust you got it right. I planted a little Lilac (because I love the smell) at least 6 years ago and it’s finally starting to get good. For the love of purple.

Aquariums tend to be pretty easy once established so after ignoring the warnings about sun after after being diagnosed with discoid lupus for many years, I’m making a bat cave of sorts. It’s not much appreciated but staying out of the sun for me isn’t easy. This isn’t really all about flowers anymore but about showing up. What is Erica learning. Well my big tank has my favorite fish we call Mr. Bubbles aka Bubs but the tank has developed the ick - too much sun - ironic. It only sticks to glass and to the stuff / not in the water. So I tried to introduce another Pleco (I’ve had bad luck with them) and Gary the enormous snail. I’ll probably regret that choice. Help me fight the mean green. Having a light that goes from dawn to moon helps too.

So I’m done with the ocean but I always paint the frame. What color paint would you choose if I made you hang it on your wall?

It’s in the 90’s today after being so cold and rainy and I’m like Mother Nature I’m not in Missouri anymore…lol…you are supposed to give me time to get used to it. All that to be said, I’ve been trying out a lot more outdoor cooking. For me it’s cooking on a gas grill. I always believed in Charcoal but my mom (who is always right) convinced me it would make my life a lot easier to get a gas grill and I haven’t missed the flavor over the convenience that much to be honest but for certain occasions definitely always charcoal. We don’t have central air like a lot of other people out here in Maine so the last thing I want to do is heat up the house. So I’ll sweat it out making chicken tonight so I don’t have to sweat it out in the house. (Nevermind my oven could use a break anyway).

I’ve fallen behind this year on purpose mostly. My little John Deere tractor was the best present I could have ever been given a couple years back and that little tractor started right up after the winter. I was schooled on the purpose of non ethanol gas a while back. Makes life so much easier but let’s not talk about gas prices. In the meantime I also figured out the joy of a simple needle threader. This is the 40’s. Not very exciting. Like a progressive commercial. What have you guys learned recently that changed the way do things? I could go on…

The Hudson flower bomb hasn’t shown up here in a minute but I’ve been working on the magic of dried flowers and I’ve upgraded to a press finally. Speeds up the process so much. It’s going to make for some cool art I hope. Such a great way to preserve flowers that meant something to you. (My oldest is graduating soon so I suppose every flower means even more to me than normal.)

I made some punch kneedle art - mostly to avoid the reality of rebuilding my entire yard after the city destroyed everything and figuring out how to be motivated again in that regard. I built two aquariums. Got my now old bulldog out on a couple walks. It’s been a long winter.

Decluttering and one expensive trash bag at a time (I recycle what I can). My spice cabinet was slowing me down - I’m the cook around here. Two more pantries, a lazy Susan who has been very lazy and a coat closet. I started in November because it’s not a New Year’s resolution. It’s just time to do it. My new year starts on my birthday. Party of 5 around here but something’s make me happy - like this -
