Cold-hardy herbs earning their keep.
Rosemary, thyme and oregano planted in spring, still happy to be picked in January.
A few minutes outside saves a trip to the shops and my Sunday roast tastes better for it!!

Social media can be tricky as a gardener. I follow gardeners from all different types of climates. Some are knee deep in snow while others are beginning to plant their seedlings out.
The panic of ‘I’m not doing enough’ or ‘I’m going to miss my planting opportunity’ can quickly set in and suddenly you’re running down to the big box store to pick up starts only to realize the garden center is empty and that they won’t be getting plant in until April🫠
Just me?😂
But for real. Don’t let someone in Florida or Southern California rule your internal gardening clock!

Ripping everything out for winter takes work… but this is how you reset your beds, rebuild nutrients, and set yourself up for a spring garden that thrives!!
And here’s my pro tip: do a full tear-out every other year to give your soil the deep reset it needs.

Your soil needs a good mix every now and again (and I highly suggest testing your soil every late winter/early spring!)
I like to do a soil revamp every fall before I plant out my garlic and spring bulbs.
My usual fall soil recipe is a fresh layer of compost, crisping leaves and some worm casting. But this year I’m adding rabbit manure —> high in nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus!
And I will say, I’m not planning on mixing in the rabbit manure until spring- partially because it can act as a winter mulch but I also planted my garlic already… so best not to disturb the garlic babies until the sprout and I know exactly where they are😬
I give everything a good soak and then let nature have its way with it until spring!

Garden clean-out 2025 is here!
Usually I wait till Thanksgiving to clear out my beds but I was tired. The garden was tired. It just felt like the right time to pull everything, ya know?

Your onions are talking — I’ll help you translate!
Onions are fun and easy when the conditions are right.
Give them plenty of sun, space and steady moisture, and they’ll do the rest.
Simple, reliable, and one of the first crops to reward your early garden efforts.

We are almost there folks! Our 2025 gardening season is wrapping up and I’m sure like me, you’re tiiiired.
If gardening feels hard right now — go small.
Pull one w**d. Harvest one thing. Sit and breathe.
You don’t have to do it all right now.
