Changing Directions

I tend to use the same composition styles/paint similar paintings in a row, then switch and do something completely different. So I’ve decided to go back and revisit some of the techniques I’ve done in the past, and see how things might have changed since. Like checking in with an old friend, but on canvas.

“No Promises, No Demands”

I have this habit of getting stuck on pieces that don’t work. I have An Idea, I try and finish it. Which is great, when it’s An Idea that works. But they don’t always, so out comes the gesso, and the whole canvas gets covered. For these, I reuse the leftover paint that’s been sitting in my cupboard from previous paintings. I don’t ever have a plan, and I just sort of meander in whatever general direction my works been heading lately. Basically, I take the opposite approach I do when I have An Idea. No expectations, just do a thing and decide if I like it.
This was one of those pieces, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.

Excited and honored to be a part of this upcoming show at ! “A Quiet Composition” is a juried show centered around minimalism, and I’ve had two pieces selected to show. Fun fact- they were both made with a palette of 3 paints each!
