Now is the time to start some early Spring cleaning!

Downsizing and organizing your home can be very taxing. It takes a lot of energy to think about your items and what you want to do with them. Whether it is emotional attachment or for functional purposes, a lot of thought goes into downsizing your spaces.

If it is overwhelming for you to tackle an area of your house, take a step back and make a plan.

It is ok to not be able to make a decision on an item right now. Creating a maybe pile will keep your momentum going and not slow you down. Tackle the “Maybe” pile when you have the mental space to do so.

When finished with an area, put the donation pile straight into your car! Otherwise it’ll sit there until the next time you decide to downsize or clean the space.

Take the time once every couple months to do a kitchen declutter. The kitchen is a gathering place and a lot of things can pile up here.
If it is an overwhelming task, break it up into increments. Work through one drawer at a time and keep only the items you need or use on a weekly basis. If an item is only used once or twice a year, keep it in storage elsewhere.

Unpacking Tips:
- Make your bed first! The last thing you want to do is make a bed when you are dog tired at the end of the day.
- Have a furniture plan prior to moving in. Make a general guide for the movers so they can place items without having to move them again.
- Unpack your kitchen then unpack the bedrooms.
- Unfold every piece of packing paper so you don't miss any small pieces that were wrapped tightly or slipped through the box.
- Make sure to leave space in your garage for all the broken down boxes and paper.

Quick tips to help you with your move:
1. Downsize your closets prior to your move. Throw out or donate what you can.
2. Declutter your junk drawers - group like items with zip-locks so they don't get lost in the shuffle.
3. Color code your boxes to match the rooms with post-it notes
4. Pack a "essentials" box - everything you will use and need for the first couple of days
5. Gather all documents, manuals, and receipts for the items that stay with the home. This way you can hand it over to the new owners when the time comes.
