Anthurium Pink Lemonade x Red Crystallinum.

I'll start rolling out the June collection this weekend but THIS!

It feels like these pictures should be flipped into one of those memes that says "Tell me you're broke without telling me you're broke".

Video in the comments.

Is there anything left for Saturday? Yes, all of the plant varieties that we had available today are now restocked and ready for you in the morning.

Plants People: Here is the walkthrough for our sale this weekend. And a couple of notes:

We split the selection between the two days so anyone shopping Saturday has the same selection as those who shop Friday.

We have carrying trays right inside the door for your plant carrying pleasure. They're crafted of the finest Italian cardboard. You'll certainly notice this at first touch.

Hannah will also be in that first room to answer any questions.

Other than that, the doors will be open:

Tomorrow, 9-2
Saturday, 8-2.

Adenium obesum "Desert Rose" - 2" pot, $3, at our sale this weekend only.

Plants People: We've found that several of the original Plant Of The Month - Adenium in 3" clay - had a pest, so we've had to shut down the "Buy Now" button and won't be bringing that one (of course).

BUT, we've got a backup Adenium (pictured) that we will be bringing.

If you have already paid for the original, we've already refunded your money. It should be back in your account today or tomorrow. Sorry for the bait and switch, but I'm sure you'll agree with our decision to yank them.

And now, how about a quick talk about pests in general. Everyone will deal with them at some point, especially if you bring your plants outside for the season. So what's the solution? Alcohol.

No.... don't get loaded and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Get rubbing alcohol - 70% isopropyl. And a spray bottle.

There are very few pests that you'll ever encounter that can't be treated with a few sprays of rubbing alcohol. Whatever plant it is should be spritzed - the top and bottom of the leaves and the stems. A little on the soil, as well. Then keep them out of direct light until the treatment is finished.

The only thing to keep in mind is that there may be eggs present, as well. So your entire treatment consists of respritzing about 4x at 3 day intervals. This gets the active bugs and anything that hatches later. That's it. The only pest that I'm aware of that this won't work for are armored scale. These just need to be picked off with a toothpick.

Bugs are a thing. You'll deal with them. We'll deal with them. No one escapes forever. But the solution truly is just as simple as I've made it sound.

For more tips and tricks to help your garden grow, I'll be walking around talking plants all weekend.

That second picture with Summer Rayne of Homestead Brooklyn popped up today on the "This Day in Andrew's Pictures" thing on my phone. I think she must have actually interviewed me during our April event that year. We were three years into Flyleaf and at least knee-deep into the idea of Flyleaf South. We had recently purchased the land and had already frozen half to death multiple times through that first winter. That's about all we had accomplished when Summer visited.

The picture reminded me today of what we've done over the past 4 years, though. It was kind of the first page of a new chapter just turning. I think we're in that place again with the new greenhouse going up. And it's an encouraging reminder when I'm 15' in the air hanging 20' purlins that projects like this have already happened twice, so this one will have a completion date, too.

At our St. Louis Plant Sale on the 22nd & 23rd, we're going to be introducing several new plant varieties, we'll have plenty of the perennial classics, and we'll have just enough weirdness to keep it all memorable.

Succulents, tropicals, carnivorous, edibles... from baskets to bonsai; bananas to Beaucarnea, Alocasia to Zamioculcas, and everything in between. A hundred + varieties at $10 and under, plenty more from $15-$30, and a fine selection of rare species and specimens from $40 on up.

I'll post more of this month's collection as we get nearer but in general we'll have hundreds of varieties and thousands of plants!

There is never an entry fee but always miles of smiles.

Friday, May 22nd, 9-2
Saturday, May 23rd, 8-2.

Back to plants tomorrow.

A few posts ago, I highlighted the pileated woodpecker couple that have dug holes into one of the power poles at Flyleaf South. They've been raising families there for at least 5 years.

I shot this footage yesterday with a 20x zoom on my phone, so it's not the clearest.

But it's clear enough to make me wonder if that bird might find it a kindness if I were to rest an Advil every here and there on those branches for those extra long days.

Or maybe a corkscrew.
