The transformation of this home is incredible.

We installed a beautiful wide plank European white oak with a perfectly balanced coastal neutral color. The new, simple, modern handrails and treads were stained to closely compliment the floors.

Designer Amy McCoy delivered a dreamy space.
We loved being one of many who helped bring this vision to life.
We can’t wait to show you the whole home!

For this project, the handrails, newels and treads are to be the same color as the new floor color. The biggest challenge is dealing with the nuances of the wood variation from flooring to essentially, furniture grade carpentry.
We inspect all parts for graining and imperfections. If approved, we move to testing color. Sometimes, we have to tweak the stain color to match the floor stain. Especially if the stair parts have an undertone/hue that is different from the floor wood.
We just confirmed the colors are matched! We used alcohol based stains.
No additional mixing and testing. Time to move on to the next step.

Today we start a much anticipated custom project. To get to the reveal, it all starts with prep work. From Demo through the final application of polyurethane, we never skip steps or cut corners.
This part of the process isn’t sexy. It’s brutal. It’s back breaking. No one spends a full 8 hours solid a day on demo. We encourage everyone to pace themselves. Stop and stretch! We get one body, protect it, care for it. That’s also why we invest in tools to help protect our knees and backs. This week is dedicated to demo and substrate prep.
We’ll be taking video and posting along the way. We want to share the process to help better inform and educate about the work that goes into our craft.

One of our all time favorite projects!

The house is extraordinary and an architectural gem.
We got to work with our favorite renovator and builder,
The project was visually captured by the skilled artistic eye of

We preserved the existing floors, laced in some new to match where needed then sanded and finished all to blend seamlessly.
Previously, the treads had black electrical tape on the edges to create a visual break for safety going down the stairs. We had a perfect solution to replace the tape. We removed the existing treads to add walnut inlay on the edge before finishing and reinstalling. Beautiful update!

Our client wanted to lighten and brighten the visual weight of their staircase. Their style had changed and they were ready for a refresh.

We replaced old pine builder treads with oak which were custom finished in their desired color. New handrails, newels and balusters were finished, painted and installed. We refinished the landing to match the treads. We painted and installed new risers too.
Complete removal and new fully finished installation.

We are NOT an ORDINARY company.
We are EXTRAORDINARY!

Expert hardwood flooring professionals and we’re carpenters. We have been remodeling and renovating and installing whole staircases since 2016. We have a complete system that no other stair company in town offers. And GC’s love us because we do all things (and I mean ALL) floors and stairs including finishing!
A one top shop. One contractor instead of hiring 3: floor contractor, stair company, painter/finisher. Less scheduling headaches!
Less time to get to complete and ready to use.
We also use revolutionary products very few other companies use. While others stick to doing the same old thing because they’re slow to update, we stay up to date on the best products delivering superior finish and durability.

Proud of our team of craftspeople.
Grateful to get to work with amazing clients, designers and GC’s.

The necessary and not so sexy prep work leads to a solid, secure, long lasting floor.

1. We identified all the subfloor planks that were lose and screwed them to the joists.
2. New 1/2” subfloor was installed over the original subfloor planks. We glued to the planks and screwed through to joists. This now allows the new wood to be laid any direction and ensures a transition free flow of wood to new addition and tile. No thresholds and no reducers. Smooth. The subfloor now moves as a single, unified object. This will help reduce and protect from settling and shift with our chaotic climate.

We identified significant dips in the floor prior to project start. The GC had carpenters shim up the floor before we started substrate work in the kitchen area. Once all our subfloor is installed, only a couple areas will require leveler to eliminate remaining low spots.
We’ll post more tomorrow as we get substrate work completed.

Floors are not just about picking a pretty color. Floors are structural not just decorative. We approach our projects assessing stability and structure first. We want your floors to outlast you. They’ll ensure through many refinished and remain structurally sound.
