Didn’t winter sow? No problem. 🌱

Our new Beginner No-Stratification Seed Collection was designed specifically for beginners and includes 7 seed packets of easy-to-grow native wildflowers and grasses for home gardens.

Unlike many native seeds, these species do not require cold-moist stratification, meaning you can plant them now — even in summer. No refrigeration or complicated seed prep required.

After Monday's storm, where did water pool in your yard?

Those soggy spots are perfect for a rain garden.

Instead of fighting the water, plant natives that can handle wet conditions and help soak up excess runoff—while turning the area into something that looks beautiful and provides nectar to pollinators.

Some rain garden-friendly plants we currently have in stock:
• Copper Iris (Iris fulva)
• Swamp Rose Mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos)
• Northern Blue Flag Iris (Iris versicolor)
• Common Hop Sedge (Carex lupulina)
• Lizard’s Tail (Saururus cernuus)
• Golden Alexander (Zizia aurea)
• Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)

For larger areas, we also offer a Rain Garden Seed Mix.

If you’re dealing with puddling after heavy rain, planting for it is one of the easiest long-term solutions.

If you’re in the St. Louis area, call us to place your order and schedule pickup. Or place an order online -- we’ll follow up to coordinate your shipping date.

Is that a sunflower?!

Nope — that’s Compass Plant.

A prairie icon, Compass Plant (Silphium laciniatum) can reach 7–8 feet tall, rising above surrounding grasses with bright yellow blooms that resemble sunflowers from a distance.

But what really makes it unique is its leaves, which naturally orient north to south — something early prairie travelers used to help find their way.

It blooms from June through September and attracts bees, butterflies, and even birds like goldfinches. Just keep in mind, it may not flower its first year as it focuses on developing its deep root system.

Its deep taproot helps it handle drought and anchor in place for decades...sometimes nearly 100 years.

Order now for mid-April delivery! This species has limited inventory.

New Product Alert! 👀
Prairie Dock (Silphium terebinthinaceum)

If you want a plant that makes a statement from a distance, Prairie Dock is it. Huge upright leaves at the base give way to tall, leafless stems with bright yellow, sunflower-like blooms in mid to late summer.

It’s a magnet for bees and other pollinators and extremely tough once established thanks to its deep taproot, handling drought, clay, and rocky soils with ease. Best in full sun and great for prairie plantings or larger landscapes where you want height and structure.

Plants are available to order now. Shipping is expected to begin mid-April, depending on the weather.

🦋 Are you planting milkweed this year?

Milkweed isn’t just another native plant—it’s the only plant monarch butterflies can lay their eggs on and the only food monarch caterpillars can eat.

As native prairies have disappeared, milkweed has become harder for monarchs to find, making it one of the most important plants we can put back on the landscape.

If supporting monarchs is on your list this season, choosing milkweed native to your region matters.

👉 Learn why native milkweed is essential:

Milkweed is essential to monarch butterflies. Learn how native milkweed supports their life cycle, when to plant, and which species to choose.

Is it too late to plant native seed?

Not at all. January might not feel like planting season if you’re used to summer vegetable gardening, but for many native species, winter is part of the process.

Cold temperatures help trigger germination naturally, so seedlings emerge at the right time and establish more successfully.

If you’re worried you missed your chance to plant native seed — you haven’t.
