It’s not the heat; it’s the humidity, am I right? 🥵☀️ Well, at least when we’re talking about summer storm season, the humidity definitely has something to do with it.

With this warm weather and sunshine come severe storms and high winds (and possibly tornadoes). ⛈️🌪️ And now that there are leaves on the trees, that means an increased risk of limbs and trees falling victim to the bad weather.

What a re-leaf that it's finally spring! 🤭

We know midwestern spring weather keeps us all on our toes (this year especially) but this is a great season to get rid of those dead/dying trees that you've been meaning to get to for a while now. Severe weather is in the forecast for Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin today — and this is exactly what we never want to see on the other side of it. 🌩️

If a storm brings a tree or limb down on your home tonight, here's what to do:
✅ Stay out of the structure until it's been checked — a tree on a roof compromises more than you can see from the outside
✅ Don't attempt to move it yourself — tension in downed wood is unpredictable and dangerous
✅ Call your insurance company to document before cleanup begins
✅ Then call us — we respond to storm damage and can work directly with your insurance adjuster

Friday feeling: knowing the dangerous tree next to the driveway or house is GONE. 😌✌️

We've heard it all this week — "I've been meaning to call for two years," "I kept hoping it would fall the other direction," and our personal favorite: "My husband said he could handle it himself."

Spoiler: he could not handle it himself.

This tree has a story to tell — and it's not a good one. 🌩️

Years ago, this oak took a direct lightning strike. You can still see the scarring and the long healed-over wound running down the trunk. Impressive survival, right?

Here's the problem — what lightning starts, rot often finishes. Look closely at the base: decay has moved in, and what looks like a standing, living tree is quietly becoming a hazard.

Spring is the perfect time to walk your yard and really LOOK at your trees. Here's what to watch for:

🔍 Cracks or splits running vertically down the trunk
🔍 Soft, spongy wood or visible fungal growth at the base
🔍 Old storm scars — lightning, wind, or ice damage
🔍 Leaning that wasn't there last year
🔍 Dead branches concentrated in the upper canopy

A tree can look perfectly healthy from the curb and be structurally compromised at the core. If something looks off — trust your gut and call a pro.
