Wood for thought…

Summer is in full swing. Back yard barbecues are cooking, fire pits burning and your deck more comfortable than your living room?

Don’t forget to check your wood on wood connection points for rot and start prepping for the wet fall and winter months. Minor repairs are better than full replacement! Fall is also the time to start planning early spring improvements and getting budget planning together before the holiday spending spree hits.

Keep us in mind! We work in the cold too.

Wood for thought… carpentry serves many purposes in the renovations/construction process. Whether you hire an architect or not, they fill in the gaps as designer, general contractor, drywaller, painter, tiler, appliance installer and more, depending on the job at hand and the expectations of the client. They are typically one of the first professionals on the job and the last to leave when the job is done.

So in this “Wood for thought” we recommend you write down the full scope of your project and be open to suggestions when you are interviewing a carpenter. Ask for examples of their past jobs and their comfort level and abilities for the work you are looking to have done. In addition, if they don’t have the experience for some of the work ask if they have contacts of professionals they can subcontract to get the job done. This extra effort on your part will allow you the opportunity to express your expectations in detail so you get the most out of the work you are scheduling, ensure that you are comfortable with your selection and you won’t be surprised when you had tile in mind and didn’t plan for it and now can’t find someone to do it when you’re at the finish line of your project.

It’s better to take the time and plan then to wait while your living space is torn apart and you have to rush to figure it out.
