Howdy Neighbors. Craig here, owner of ReGrow LLC.
Recently I made a post that was very emotional and had some number of insults directed at a person who I witnessed doing damage to a section of habitat restoration we did along Cedar Flats road in Stony Point.
I do regret not maintaining a positive attitude and affect, but I would like everyone to know that this is much more than a business to me.
I do many projects for free, in order to beautify and restore habitat in Stony Point, which is a place I love and my family has loved for many generations before me.
I sell projects to restore native habitat and pollinator gardens to conscientious people who want to remove long-term maintenance costs and help our local ecosystem. That's how I make a living for my family. There are many business models I could choose from, and ways to make money that would be much easier than trying to create an industry alternative. My family's finances hang by a thread, but they stand behind me because they know I am passionate about this and believe that it is the way of the future for all landscaping.
I was angry at this person who stole and destroyed a project that I donated to our town, but I wasn't angry because they stole many dozens of hours of work from me that took several years to complete. I assume any work I do on public land is subject to the whims of passing fools.
I was angry because I believe that this work is critically important to stabilizing and improving the health of our shared world. I sell this service to people who believe in it, as I do. I am angry because these are not simply plants that look pretty. They are more valuable than gold. They support the foundation of our local ecosystem which is being attacked from all directions.
My customers and others who have supported me in this effort are doing something priceless. My anger is not motivated by some selfish attachment to my work. My anger is here because I believe deeply, and have a deep emotional attachment to the work that I do.
I would never sell anything to anyone that I did not believe in with my whole heart. I will fight to protect natural beauty and healthy ecosystems whenever possible. I am called to do this work, and will continue to do this work no matter what.
The flowers along Cedar Flats that were taken will be replaced, and I will plant even more, and invest my own money in signage to teach passersby why these things are so important, and why they should be enjoyed every day by all of us.
