The Flower Factory Local, family-run nursery specializing in native and pollinator plants.

You can find us at the Dane County Farmers' Market on Saturdays, as well as order online for pickup at our farm. To look at us now you wouldn't know we started with fields of cut flowers, perennials, veggies, herbs, and dare I say annuals! As time marched on, we decided to leave the cut flowers behind and expand our perennial business.

While the calendar says it is Spring, with snow on the ground it is hard to believe. Most of the plants that were put to bed last fall in the overwintering greenhouse are now waking up. On April 16th we will begin our marketing season at the Dane County Farmers' Market on the Square in Madison and we hope to see you there. We won't be doing on-farm pickup sales this year. For the 2022 season we are focusing on pollinator, Wisconsin native, rain garden and proven-hardy perennials. We hope you will find many plants that will compliment your gardening style. We are looking forward to seeing your friendly faces in the weeks and months ahead; it has been a long winter and we are ready for a change.

Although our retail operation on the Farm is now closed, we will be in Madison at the Dane County Farmers' Market on the Square this Saturday selling excess perennials at reduced prices. Normally selling for $5 each, they are now $3 each, 2 for $5 or 5 for $10. We still have a broad selection of blooming-sized, native and pollinator plants that transplant well with these cooler, fall temperatures. Come visit us; we would love to see you.

We’re wrapping up our on-farm pickup orders for this year, and we have one more pickup day left: Sunday, June 20th 1-6pm.

You can place your orders until the end of the day Tuesday, June 15th.

We will still be at the Dane County Farmers’ Market during the rest of the season, but this is the last time to take advantage of our full selection that we are offering, and easy pickup!

New inventory uploaded!

We finally managed to get our inventory updated (mostly… we’re still updating a few plants here and there). I say there wasn’t enough April showers to give us time to spend inside greenhouses counting plants, and instead we were busy watering plants during our recent summer weather previews.

To the important part: we have new plants added to our online store, filling out our “full season” selection, after we focused on spring ephemerals and other early plants.

What’s new? The main thing is that we have Hostas and Daylilies available! These are ones that we held onto from last year, but this will be the last year we are carrying them. Nice large plants, ready to make a statement in your garden — or for you to divide up yourself and cover some ground (or strengthen friendships with other gardeners).

Also, just so everyone is aware, we are not open for retail, so tell your friends. We are at the Dane County Farmers’ Market on Saturdays, so swing by there, say hi, and talk plants with David and Derek. Nancy will be making a guest appearance on May 22nd and 29th, so bring your old catalogs for autographs!

Hello Garden Friends!

Online orders are now open for April on-farm pick up!

We won’t be doing retail at the nursery this year, but we will be selling at the Dane County Farmers’ Market, in addition to having an online ordering system for on-farm pickups. The silver lining from the pandemic is that it forced us to explore the online ordering system, so now we can offer that to you.

How Online Orders will work: Go to The Flower Factory Square Site at https://theflowerfactorywi.square.site/ and choose from the available plants there, place your order, choose an available "pickup time slot", and pick up your plants at that time. We have kept our “Advanced Search” page (http://www.theflowerfactorynursery.com/advanced-search-perennials.aspx) on our site so you can use that to search for plants based on bloom time, location, and such, but you will have to place your order on our Square site. We will have limited times available for pickup this season so make sure you find a time that fits your schedule sooner rather than later.

The pickups start on Wednesday April 7th for spring ephemerals and plants that you can plant out in early spring, with times on Wednesday and Sunday on alternating weeks. At the end of April we will update our inventory, including more plants as our other perennials wake up. We will continue the on farm pickups every other week, increasing the selection of plants that we will be carrying this season. We will send out another announcement when we update our inventory for May pickups.

Howdy Folks!

This is the last weekend for the Celebration Sale, and we’re winding down with 80% off all plants.

We still have a lot of rock garden / alpine plants at the party, Platycodon (Balloon flower) are wondering who they’re going to go home with, and Campanulas are looking for a companion -- you! Some Hostas are still camped out in their hut, and daylilies and grasses are still milling about as well.

The last day of retail is on August 31st, so we’ll see you this weekend!

Here's a quick video of some of the plants that are still waiting for you to take them home, along with some pollinators enjoying the blooms (Mud dauber wasp on the Asclepias and Bumblebee on the Agastache).
