Came home to the ladies enjoying a fall forage. 🍁🍁

Thrilled the solar setup my hubby designed has kept the eggs coming through these short days 😍😎

Finally building a permanent house for the kids … excited to be making improvements from the makeshift plastic hut. Hoping to finish before the snow flies 🥶❄️ (no choice really)

Moved the tarp to extend over the whole pen now that they can enjoy the fenced in area. Raised the water, re - dug drainage, and layered in different bedding. Hopefully these things will make it easier to clean 🤞🏼🫣

Truly never thought I’d build anything like this. Shout out to University of Kentucky College of Agriculture for the hoop pen guidance (attached below). This made it feel possible and got me started.

Our new additions, Cheese and his black Swedish ladies, mostly get along with the OG ladies. Maybe Cheese will be a dad someday? Stay tuned for my hatching egg experiment 😂🤗

Excited to have 7Cs Kitchen & Market open so close to home and for their support of local products!

We will try to bring in as many local products as we can, as long as they sell. We are proud to be selling Eggs from Evan’s Mountain Farm and Duck Eggs from Lavoie Lodge Ladies, both from right here in Strafford. Please, send in any local farmers selling their products. We’re looking to bring in local produce too, so spread the word to any farmers you know.

It’s been awhile but the ladies are doing better than ever!!

We:
🦆 free range every day
🦆 aerate the garden so it looks like mom landscaped
🦆 come home at night to be locked up for safety
🦆 lay our eggs in our pen so mom doesn’t have to search the yard for them
🦆 demonstrate the need for a duck crossing sign
🦆 convinced our poodle sister we can all be out together and no one has to die 😂😍

Shout out to those of you who have lent a helping hand, supportive ear, or encouraging sentiment as I’ve transitioned into active duty Army wife life. 🫡

Especially thankful to the Cash family who supports the sporadic duck clan appearance in their yard and entertains the Ru dog 🐩 on my long days 💕
