Added vinyl gutter to this little vestibule walk out from the basement in the hopes of helping to decrease the amount of ice that builds up near this condenser unit and on this side of the driveway. Seems like a lot of hassle for "might help, might not" but here we are.

And...done! Finished up the install of my second Mr. Cool muti head mini split system. There will eventually be at least one more indoor unit. (That's why there is a capped off Y on the line set covers heading down to the compressor, for the last unit to tie in later) But this baby is up and running. The fan on one unit is acting a little weird, but they are both up and heating/cooling. The house just got a LOT more comfortable.

Working from the roof of the garage to prep the line set covers is slow going for me. Also yes, in a perfect world, this wall would have been painted first. This world is anything but perfect. That's a "future me" problem.

I have to remove the panelling which is covering trashed plaster and repair the walls in this room before I can hang the indoor unit here, but I need to figure out placement now. That will let me plan the routing of the lines on the external wall. When I got past the plaster and could see between the lath, I was really confused as to what is in the wall cavity. It's not insulation. It looks like crumpled paper? And then I remembered the yellow jackets flying into this corner during the Summer. This particular nest looks old, but I'm real glad that I didn't tear into it during the warmer weather. Wheee...adventure!

Stubborn and creative are a winning combo. This 18k indoor unit is heavy, but I managed to get it hung by myself. I called in my favorite muscle to help get the condenser through the back yard and lifted onto the stand. Next up, the upstairs bedroom which will need the lines to be run from the roof of the garage.

Armed with the confidence of knowing that my hole was in an area that would successfully exit the wall to outside, I started drilling the 3.5 inch hole for the mini split lines. I was prepared to repair plaster if/when I hit a stud. And I did. Plus a cross member. Because I stopped drilling just through the plaster, I could move my hole over and down just enough to clear and only had to repair plaster, no lath damage done. Now ready to finish drilling from the other side.

Prepping to drill big holes in old walls is so exciting. Stud finders are not super reliable with lath and thick plaster, so when the old "knock on the wall" or "look at the nails in the baseboards" situation isn't helpful, I am reduced to climbing in the attic and taking photos down the walls...also drilling exploratory holes and being VERY excited when I can see the end of the drill bit and it's NOT in the garage attic. Then we move on to drilling much bigger exploratory holes! Oof, also that wall over the garage needs cleaning something fierce.
